A little further away from where we wanted to be but good value for money and worth driving too. Nice cafe on site for breakfast with very friendly staff.
Nice hotel I have stayed a few times and all rooms seem bright and spacious. Plenty of free parking at the hotel which is helpful. Staff friendly at reception.
Nice surroundings. Bit cut off from amenities. Customer service was just 'jobs worth' and no extras.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Room was clean, but showing its age. It was on the small side, but big enough with all the facilities required. What we particularly liked was the french windows opening onto a small seating area, beyond which was the carpark. We used this as our main entrance and exit to the room. Very convenient. We can imagine this being very pleasant in the summer. The marina also benefited from a cafe/bar on site, serving simple pub food and breakfasts.
Close proximity to the train station which was essential for our onward travel to Stansted .
The staff were friendly , the rooms, although slightly dated , were spotless & the bed comfortable.
The location was really pretty being on the River Stort . We made use of the onsite cafe / bar. then took an evening stroll along the river bank .
It would have suited us to have breakfast
in the cafe but it was closed the following morning for a deep clean , which just shows
cleanliness of the place .
There was nothing not to like . We hope to stay again .
A great find.
On arrival we walked over to look at all the boats on Roydon Marina and had lunch at The Boathouse Cafe Bar, which overlooks the Marina.
Staff friendly and helpful in the Hotel Reception.
We had booked a windowless room but figured we'd be watching television or asleep so wouldn't need to worry about looking out of a window. It got a bit stuffy in the night and felt a bit constricted but it was probably more psychological than actual.
Train station in walking distance. Trains to London.
Indian Restaurant steps from our hotel room. Delicious meal here on our second night. We had a leaflet in our room which gave us 10% off food excluding drinks. So happy days!
Great for walking. We walked beside the Stort Navigation and to Dobb's Weir for a great breakfast at the Palace River Cafe.
We hope to return and use this hotel as a base once again.
My one complaint is about the light in the ceiling that fades on as the sun rises. The room I chose had no windows - I thought that would mean it is a good dark room (apart from the usual small coloured light to indicate the exit). But there was a large light in the ceiling that faded lighter and lighter in the morning. Unlike light from outside windows, it didn’t have an option to close a curtain on it. I was woken by the light at 5:50am and it just got brighter from there.
This was the first time I realised why they had provided an eye mask on the pillow. But opening that up and putting it on only woke me up further.
I dont know if there was a way to disable it - I couldn’t see any switches and there wasn’t any info in the room. I checked in late with a security guard so also don’t know if info would usually be given on checking in.
All other things about my stay were excellent. Staff friendly. Bed comfortable (firm, which is what I prefer), decent pillows, good linen, nice toiletries. The cafe nearby did a good breakfast (not included) and the curry place next door smelled good when I arrived, but I had already eaten so cannot comment further.
If you consider a windowless room here, I would ask about the ceiling daylight feature first and check it can be disabled if the light is likely to disturb you. Or make use of the eye mask if you won’t find it uncomfortable.
My photos show the light at 5:50am and at 8am with no other lights on in the room.

Nice hotel, but difficult to get the temperature right in the room and the curtains were so thin that the flood lights from the car park lit up the bedroom also! Please put black-out curtains in your bedrooms!
