For all the white glove service, and friendly smiles at arrival, the hotel didn't live up to it's promise. Staffers had a better command of the English language than most typical hotels in the area, but failed to be helpful when it most mattered. The front desk (which had a convenient currency exchange service) was fully aware of how fraudulent taxicab drivers were in the city, and gave no advance warning to clients. After I was defrauded by a taxi-cab driver of over Y450 through a very slick scheme, the front desk confirmed to me that the bills the driver had passed on to me were all fake, and described in detail how the fraud was perpetrated. It was definitely medicine after death! It made no sense that they were that aware of what was going on and wouldn't warn clients ahead. They almost seemed complicit in the fraud.
Also anytime you complained about anything was when their command of the English always disappeared. I quickly came to realize that it was their way of avoiding responsibility- a standard way of not wanting to solve clients' complaints or problems. I left a country I had fallen in love with, very bitter and disillusioned. Will never stay here again, nor visit China. SAD! :-(
