On arrival the front of staff was very friendly and welcoming. The place itself and location is picturesque and has good potential. However, the room (kingfisher) is very tired and needs updating. The bathroom ceiling leaks when it rains, hence the container on the floor!! As for the food, terrible, the management have seriously let the staff down. The choices are basic and only half of the options available. The website showing a chef in white is misleading. I would give the food a wide berth and eat elsewhere as we did on our 2nd night. The landlords which is a brewery beginning with R has seriously let the staff and public down by their lack of interest, direction and investment. If it wasn't for the staff, I would be asking for a full refund as the place is not worth it

Great Pub Stay
Excellent value Great Breakfast: full English freshly cooked included in the reasonable room rate. Friendly staff, early check-in was no problem. Definitely will return here

Family night away
Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and tidy and bed was comfortable. The shower room was small but perfect for what we needed. The hotel wasn’t serving food during our stay but did serve a hot breakfast which was delicious. Would stay here again

My wife and I were looking for somewhere to stay near Ashburton because we didn't want to drive back to west Cornwall in the dark after a meeting we were attending. We also didn't want to spend too much on our room. The Abbey Inn fitted perfectly AND INCLUDED FREE BREAKFAST as well. The staff were most welcoming and helpful and it was a real pleasure to stay in such a lovely location, with the sound of the river rushing by. I am sure that in the summer it would be even more beautiful, sitting on the decking enjoying an evening drink. Checking in was really easy. The room was perfectly acceptable, despite having chosen the smallest double room. The bed was really comfortable.
Purists will say this isn't really a "Full English" as it doesn't include beans. But it was extremely well cooked beautifully presented and delivered very promptly.

We stayed in the small double, outstanding value. Very clean ,warm room with nice white bedding, fluffy towels, good wifi. Hot shower . Tasty cooked breakfast, friendly staff.. Best value for money we have experienced. Would definitely stay again.

Easy to find, easy to park, quick simple check in and friendly staff. Not a large room but adequate, clean and bright. Food was served in the dinining room by lovely staff who were very helpful. Local to Buckfast Abbey which is about 10 minutes away on foot. Thank you all

The Inn is located next to a main road so rooms at the front will experience road noise and no view of note. The evening meal was OK and staff were polite and helpful. At breakfast we were offered raspberry yoghurts, both were off and not edible. The waitress apologised but said they could not be replaced as they had non left! The bacon was thin and sadly overcooked. Our room was clean and generally well presented, although the en-suite was very small. The Abbey Inn is no doubt an old building and this must limit the ability of the owners to offer modern building services and appeal. Work and decoration has been carried out but old buildings have limitations unless large sums of money are spent or invested.

Beautiful little place
Lovely place by the river. Would definitely stay again. Food was lovely! Highly recommended! The burger was sensational. Very friendly staff. Rooms are named very quirky after birds. Only thing I can put it down on was my room was very hot. Was a warm day with the sun beating in through the window. Would be good if the curtains were drawn to keep it a little cooler. Fan provided so not all bad. Can't control the weather. 5 star service

lovely river bank location
lovely spot next to River dart with great outside seating, even covered area if it rains. Good beer and friendly staff, only problem was the dining room is VERY dark and the lights do little to help-almost asked for candles! i had a whole plaice -tricky to see the bones! Road outside could be an issue for light sleepers -windows open in summer heat. Ask for river side room-but you will hear running water then! Would definitely stay again.

Wirtin unfreundlich: 20 min vor Check in sollten wir Geld zahlen, um in das Zimmer zu dürfen; obwohl im Frühstück enthalten mussten Croissants bezahlt werden, wenn man auch Toast wollte (war beim anderen Personal nicht, welches übrigens sehr nett war) Sauberkeit: Tische und Geländer klebten; Fußboden beim Frühstück dreckig, im Biergarten Hund auf dem Tisch (wurde vom Personal nicht beanstandet) Zimmer, Bad sehr klein, Fenster wegen Sicherheit nur ein Spalt zu öffnen, neben dem Fenster die Öffnung der Abluftsystems aus der Küche Gesamteindruck: abgewohntes Haus, schmuddelig Internet vorhanden, aber nicht das beste Positiv: Parkplätze frei und die Lage zwischen Dartmoor und südliches Devon

A bit Fawlty Towers
Lovely setting, pleasant room, all clean and comfortable. However, the staff were rude. We sat down for dinner and one lady told my elderly uncle off for “swinging on the chair” - he clearly wasn’t, he is 80 years old and was adjusting his position. We decided to eat elsewhere down the road, where we were treated like valued customers and grown ups.

Riverside pub.
Lovely old pub, great riverside ocation, friendly, terrific cooked food. Limited meat-free options, at breakfast no butter alternative, no marmite, no bran flakes, no meusli, no proper yoghurt, but excellent cooked breakfast. Usual problem retrofitting en suite into old building but in Kingfisher room this was a compromise too far - not easy to use sink or toilet. Shower was fine. Good parking, great bar.
