"We stayed in a room with a private onsen, which was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. We also got lucky with a beautiful view of Mt. Fuji from our room! The room itself was spacious, comfortable, and had a charming traditional Japanese feel that we really enjoyed. It had a beautiful old-Japan atmosphere while still being comfortable. One thing to keep in mind is that there are no food options available directly at the property. There are three restaurants, but you need to take the shuttle to get to them, and unfortunately, room service is not available either. So I would recommend planning ahead and bringing some food or snacks with you, especially if you arrive late. Overall, we really enjoyed the private onsen, the spacious room, and the traditional Japanese atmosphere"

"An amazing spot with lovely private hot spring onsen in a garden setting. Rooms were beautiful, but … when we walked in we could smell the mustiness and you could see traces of mould on the one wall. Airing out didn’t help. We were there only one night and it was full so we just stayed. We spent a lot of time in the meals were incredible - both dinner and breakfast and worth it to add on."

"What an incredible stay for us. First time to a ryokan (i.e., traditional Japanese inn w/ onsen). What an experience! Hotel is somewhat confusing to navigate, but that is part of the adventure. The public onsen was incredible (note: they swap the male and female sides, so pay ATTENTION!). The room we stayed in was "traditional" in that we had five futons atop tatami. Haven't selpt that well in a long time! The in-room onsen was a bit old school (basically a deep tub), but still oh so magical. Just a great experience overall. Plus Toi, while quiet, has a lot of charm once we go exploring."

"One of the most beautiful ryokans I've been to. The gardens, the pond, the koi - simply stunning. Feels like you've been catapulted back in time. Location is right next to Shuzenji temple & bamboo forest. Staff was increadibly hospitable too with an eye for detail and went the extra mile in taking care of our luggae, car & my mum's rollator storage. Food (especially dinner) was very good too. Lots of small dishes I had never seen arranged like this before, even though I have lived in Japan in the past. We stayed 2 nights & most dishes varied. They were able to accommodate for my mum's pork allergy (I'm not sure they could do the same for all kinds of allergy - best to ask). Onsen were on the smaller side, but numerous & beautiful. They had some private ones too. This is a traditional upscale/luxury hotel, not a new luxury hotel with the latest tech and so we booked a traditional tatami room with garden view (beautiful!). One thing to note is that their futons are not on the soft side. If you prefer soft bedding, check for their other room options or maybe ask if they can provide an extra layer of bedding."

"We really enjoyed our Japanese style room with a private onsen. The beds were comfortable. It was fun getting to try out all of the amenities in the hotel, and the town of Shuzenji Onsen was lovely."
