A five star hotel with Chinese characteristics. In other words, expect some sporadic unprofessionalism during your stay.
For example: showed up to the Breakfast Buffet at 9:30 (it closes at 10:00) and found that about half the trays were empty. I complained and this merely resulted in a man picking up remaining food and putting it on a plate for me.
Then I went to the hotel restaurant the following day (arriving after breakfast finished) and ordered two simple dishes. Yet I had to wait about an hour to receive them.
Despite these complaints, it's hard to imagine that there is any superior hotel in the small and undeveloped town of Qufu.
We stayed 2 nights to visit the confucius compound, part of our 15 day china trip. This is by far the best hotel experience of our 6 city entire trip, a five star facility combined with a small boutique hotel personal attention at the most reasonable rate. What else do travelers want? An example, the hotel offers transport to/from the high speed rail station in a nice sedan at 40rmb, versus 32-34rmb for a metered taxi. Highly recommend!
