Beautiful stay in Kona

My stay at Kona Islander Inn has been nice, and it's ongoing .. I had to switch condo units yesterday because the first one was prebooked. The community is in a perfect location to most activities in Kona, and the shops are close by for groceries. There's a nice pool area, a welcoming lounge, and laundry facilities. Paradise everyday!

Overall an excellent choice. The only issues we noise (the walls were thin between neighbors) and parking (only happened when we got in one night at 11:00 PM)

The parking is very limited. You f you don’t plan to rent a car this place is ok. It is within walking distance to eating facilities, souvenir shopping and the beach via the park. For coffee addicts, there is an old fashioned coffee maker that you would need to buy filters and ground coffee which is inconvenient if you’re just staying for a few days. Great TV with cable.

Nice little place in very good location. 50 yard walk to water front Alii Street full of good restaurants. Very popular place. Would have been nice to have a table to eat at. I always found a place to park but parking is difficult. It is what it is. There was a $270+ fee added to my charge that I was not made aware of at time of booking. Otherwise it was a pretty inexpensive place to stay in an expensive destination

Overwhelming host

The place was very nice and in a great location. I found it strange that the host came by an knocked on the door an hour after we arrived (I had to jump out the shower to answer) and then asked me 5 times to let her know when we planned on leaving via text and with a note even tho the listing said checkout is at 10 am. Was a bit overwhelming and unnecessary.

Room was 241 was horrible. When asked the owner to correct the issues They just accused us of insane things and ignored us. We paid to move respond. Expedia only reimbursed 1/2 because owner said they addressed it even though they didn’t. We had many pictures showing issues and zero attempt was made to correct it. Will we be use Expedia gain

This is my 5th stay at the Islander. Would not stay elsewhere in Kona. Ask for unit 150 First! Central location, no car needed. Walk to anywhere!

Very nice place to stay near all the action. Easily walk to restaurants and the ocean. Only downfall is that our apartment didn’t provide the internet password so if you were there for a while that would be a bummer. Other than that very comfortable with most of the amenities you would need.

Great location but this unit was ok. If you’re sensitive to loud noises ( street traffic and a very loud AC unit) or odors (hard to describe but there are lots of air fresheners in the room and one is also noisy) you may struggle with this unit.

The property had water leaking through electrical wire, through the light fixtures. Please do not stay here, as the owner/manager lied to me and said it would be fixed, whereas the cleaning lady told me that it hasn’t been fixed in a while. Incredibly dangerous.

Front desk did not have my check information. Front desk personnel friendly but inexperienced. Each condo is privately owned & owner has to approve booking before it shows at front desk. My check in was delayed by 90 minutes trying to reach owner & get approval of booking. “Condo” was just 1 small room with fold up (Murphy) bed & bathroom. Too small for 2 people. Great location on beach, nice pool.

First, the listing on hotels.com was misleading. After going through many listings that said one bedroom, two bedroom, one bedroom, two bedroom, the fact that they did not describe this as a studio, which it was, was disconcerting. Walking in to find a single room and a Murphy bed to pull down from the wall Was not what I was looking for. Two, the check-in process was haphazard. It’s apparently just a matter of luck whether any of the limited staff happen to be around the front desk when you walk in. Three, I have photos of a thick layer of grime and dust on the leading edges of the fans in the room. I doubt that they have been cleaned in years.. Four, there is insufficient parking on the premises to support the number of people staying there.

While the condo was in an ideal location in Kona, the amenities at the property were less than what I expected. The shower and bathroom sink were filthy. There were several hairs in the shower the day we arrived and what looked like toothpaste in the bathroom sink. The bathroom mirror was also dirty, with water spots all over it. The condo needs a good overall cleaning, as there was dust and dirt all over the walls, fans, decorations, etc. It is also a little outdated. The TV should be updated as well so you don't have to use three different remotes to be able to watch TV. The Murphy bed was not too comfortable, and the pillows were so thin. Overall, it was fine but I don't think I would stay here again.

I have never been this disappointed with a hotel stay. From the moment we checked in on the first day, the entire room reeked of urine. As soon as we opened the door, cockroaches scattered everywhere—so many that I honestly lost count. The bed itself had a strange, unpleasant smell, so we had to put down our own towels and blanket just to sleep. Even then, the stench from the carpet was so strong that it made my nose hurt while trying to sleep. Over the course of four nights, I remember killing at least 5 cockroaches a day. The balcony table was so filthy that even after wiping it three times with wet tissues, black grime kept coming off. The laundry rack was equally disgusting—we had to clean it several times before we could even hang our clothes. The smell in the room was so bad that even after returning home to Korea, all of our luggage and clothes—even the ones we never wore—still carried that disgusting odor. We ended up having to wash everything. The only redeeming part of this stay was watching geckos and mongooses around the balcony in the morning, which briefly lifted my mood. Other than that, this was a truly awful experience.
The balcony table remained dirty even after wiping it three times.

This place was very dirty! When I tried to reach the owner he was unresponsive. The bed was very uncomfortable. They offer a coffee maker but no coffee, coffee filters or any coffee fixings. We were very disappointed in this place.They advertise housekeeping but there was none. The room smelt aweful! The counter was filthy when we arrived and there was no cleaning products except for dishsoap. The clothes closet was occupied by dusty vacuum cleaner. It was so dirty that there was no way I was putting my clothes in there. All the ceiling fans were covered in a thick layer of dust. They hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Extremely disappointed!
