If you want to stay in Kuching for visiting the different national park don't hesitate you can book the Woodpecker Lodge.
Olivier is very friendly and helpful, he will take time to explain and to help you how to book your visit.
The room is clean. The staff are friendly. The hotel is located near to the restaurants and cafes.

Good Location/ very small room
I stayed here for 3 nights, a Very small room single bed, room 8' x 10' including the bathroom/shower. No amenities just some soap. No air just a stand-up fan, a small window, no view but another window. Good location close to many restaurants, malls, waterfront, ok WIFI, the staff very helpful, and cats. Seems all places have cats Kuching mean cat. Rules are all about the cat many don'ts, #1 rule don't let the cats out. They stand by the door waiting for someone to come in and they dart out the door lucky she went upstairs so easy to catch to bring her back in. The kitchen and the front desk is downstairs where the dorms are.
I had a good stay overall at Woodpecker Lodge for 4 nights. The staff here is super friendly & helpful. It is an absolutely backpacker-friendly place, and a great place to stay in Kuching for such an excellent price. They also offer tours & airport transfers here. I didn’t book any tours with them as I decided to do everything independently but they were very helpful in letting me know where to catch the bus to the places I wanted to visit. Woodpecker Lodge is in a very good location as it’s close to restaurants (you can even just go downstairs & find a restaurant next door), 7-11 convenience stores, banks/ATMS (right at the corner), city sights & the riverwalk, and bus stop to Bako Nat’l Park (1 block away).
The room I stayed in was definitely a budget room for a solo traveler - with a twin bed, separated by a see-through glass divider & door to the toilet / bathroom. There is a hot water shower, but the water pressure kept changing and so did the temperature, so that was very annoying. My room had no A/C, just a fan, but that was fine for me. WiFi worked pretty well in the room.
Complete in room facility just without aircond. Fan a bit dusty.

It was hard to find anyone to help you after checkin. The desk was seldom maned. Dogs were barking all night on one of my nights and there was loud noise coming from across the river until 1 am and starting again at 5 am
The staff here are great! They had mixed up our arrival date, and we'd had a 1am pick-up scheduled at the airport. They did not come, but I called and they were there within 15 minutes and did not charge us for the shuttle since they had messed up. They have a small kitchen and private bathrooms (no hot water). The Wi-Fi works well. It is close to the riverfront, and several restaurants and shops. Kuching is a very easy city to get around. Oliver also gave us great tips for our visit to Bako National Park!
Pro- near city, easy to find food, many shopping mall
Cont- noise at night, room smelly, partition between bathroom n room are uncomfortable...

Great owner but little sleep!
The positives for this place are: really comfy bed and decent pillow, the owner is a wealth of information and can give you some great tips and advice for your time in Sarawak.
The negatives are: the owner is rarely around so you need to have a phone if you want to contact him and sometimes when you just need a question answered or letting into reception it can be frustrating. The shower pressure was very hit and miss, could be a dribble or a power hose. However the main drawback of this place is the Kareoke bar below. It was unbearably loud from about 10pm to often 5am. Obviously it depends on your sleeping abilities but I have stayed above bars before and this was the worst. I could still here the thudding music through ear plugs and it would sometimes wake me up if I had managed to doze off. Make your own decision on the noise but I would say it could be worth staying a night to get the useful info from the owner.
awesome, near everything, tourist attraction etc
near food stall
near old malay housing area "kampung" - awesome
the counter guys are awesome, friendly
would really stay here in the near future
