Mekong Estate was a wonderful stay from start to finish. I booked a 'suite apartment', 65sqm, for my parents and myself (3 pax) for 4 nights in late April 2017. The hotel buildings & grounds are stunning: a couple of beautiful old colonial buildings and a few new ones built in a similar style, set right upon the Mekong River in a lush garden setting. It's a small boutique hotel with 7-10 rooms & shares the pool with another small upmarket hotel. You'll not be bothered by other guests though - plenty of space to enjoy the beautiful surroundings as if you're totally alone! The pool is especially stunning, with 'infinity' views of the Mekong, including wonderful sunsets. Good for laps at 20-25m in length, 5-6ft deep throughout. Our suite was open-plan & very spacious: a large double bed set in its own room, a single bed, open-plan kitchenette (microwave, sink, fridge-freezer), dining area and bathroom - on split levels with two French doors opening onto a long balcony with sweeping river views. Furnishings are tasteful Lao textiles & wood. Bathroom is terracotta with excellent shower. Third bed was proper sized single, perfectly comfortable, linen pristine. Breakfast is served in your room & is truly impeccable - full continental choice of foods, including freshly baked goods and squeezed juices. Service from Mssrs Vatthana & Toui was excellent, prompt and professional, as was the attentive room service.
