The Captains House is in a beautiful location. Very close to the river. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. We had a room at the side of the building with its own little patio.

I needed a one night stay and this was ideal. The room was clean, the location a short stroll from the harbour area and parking a few yards away at reasonable cost. Full English Breakfast was just the job and set me up for the day!

Beautiful location, old fashioned and kooky b&b. Some things need updating e.g carpet in the bathroom and a damp smell. The included breakfast is described as ā€˜continentalā€™ but consists of toast and cereal with a Ā£10 cooked breakfast option. Hosts are very friendly and chatty and have great recommendations of activities and places to eat as well as offering a Ā£5 per person cream tea. Overall enjoyed our stay and would come again maybe to a different room as we stayed in the accessible ground floor room.

Lovely aspect, spotless room, would have preferred en suite bathroom, even though private bathroom on same landing. I stayed at top of prooerty in single room, personally found stairs a bit of a trial . Very quiet, can't comment on food as room only. Nice to have tea making facilities in room. Bed comfortable and warm. Beautiful gardens outside, well appointed for stroll to beach and village.

Brother and I shared a twin room, which, whilst small, was adequate with comfortable beds. Room and rest of accommodation was very clean. Elected for the standard breakfast - cereal, fruit, toast with tea/coffee. A cooked breakfast was offered, for an additional charge. Location is excellent for accessing the rest of Lynmouth or walking the Watersmeet Gorge. The host was helpful, informative and chatty.

Hotel very quirky and quaint. It was like Stepping back in time, intentionally that way. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will certainly stay there again. Owner and his wife couldn't have been any nicer and always ready to help and very knowledgeable about the surrounding areas.

Step back in time

The B&B is very dated but our stay was pleasant and quiet. The room upstairs overlooking the river was a bonus. The toilet and shower room was adjacent to our room.

Lovely small room overlooking the river. The sound of the river flowing was relaxing and therapeutic. The host was charming as well as his wife and son. I was upgraded which was another bonus.

OK for a short stay

We stayed for 2 nights. The Captain's House was adequate for our needs. The owners were very pleasant and made us welcome. The breakfast included was cereal, yoghurt and toast - cooked breakfast was extra. Our room was small with a shower and toilet across the corridor shared with other guests if there are any, there was no one else on our floor. The room was quite small. I have slept in more comfortable beds; the pillows could do with being replaced. Parking limited.

Excellent position to explore Watersmeet and Valley of the Rocks. Incredibile and breathtaking views never seen in my life! The hotel has his peculiar Victorian style, which we absolutely loved! Super clean and tidy, everything in the hotel was looked after and very well maintained. Just perfect! I can't wait to come back here again

Breakfast was solid. My gripe is that I booked a room with a private bathroom, but when I was shown the room I was told that the shower and the toilet were on the other side of the landing. No private bathroom even though Iā€™d paid for one.

Avoid. Found out, common knowledge in the town that 'he' has a terrible reputation; been up for sale for years-no wonder. Arrogant and insulting. Room full of faults.
