Staff were accommodating, however you did have to pop in to their office space or kitchen to find them. The front door required a fair pull as it sticks. On the drive to it , it first appeared closed...no signage to park or to show reception. We had the downstairs room directly off a dining area. The bed was two singles pushed together . The mattresses were very firm and not very comfortable. This room would be better left as a twin with different mattresses. The young lady who served our evening meal was very pleasant. The meals were quite good .

As a family of 4 we stayed here one night, from the moment we arrived the staff were very welcoming. The hotel is very homely and the our room was spacious with great views of the countryside. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast and a drink by the open fire. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will be back should we be in the area again

Character property in a glorious rural setting
Set in a beautiful rural location, where you observe lush green rolling hills. Super peaceful and the local area is very well kept. The hotel maintains lots of original property features. I felt so relaxed as the hotel was cosy, well equipped and the beds are really comfortable. I’d love to return in summer to play on the tennis court and sit outside.

25 Years too long.
We stayed here in something like 1998 before we were married and enjoyed it enormously then. The place is out in the sticks but was warm, friendly and inviting back then. We came back 25 years and three kids later for Valentines Day and I have to say it was an amazing stay. Staff are wonderful, friendly, attentive and smart. We had a fantastic evening meal and breakfast and sat with drinks next to a wood fire in a lovely bar area. Please egive this place a go if you want well appointed rooms and great traditional service and atmosphere. We won't wait another 25 years to come back. Loved it.

BURST BED / ROTTEN SLEEP
WE ARRIVED TO BE TOLD THEY WHERE FULL EVEN THO WE HAD BOOKED ONLINE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH ONLINE THIS GOT SORTED AFTER 20 MINS OF WAITING IN THE FOYER AREA NOT KNOWING IF WE HAD TO GO GET ANOTHER HOTEL SOMEWHERE. WE DID GET A ROOM WHICH WAS LOVELY BUT WE HAD BLOW UP BEDS FOR CHILDREN. ONE BURST ON 1ST NIGHT BUT HAD TO SLEEP ON IT AS PHONE LINES GOT SWITCHED OFF AFTER 11PM. NO APOLOGY GIVEN JUST TOLD BED WOULD BE SWITCHED WHICH IT WAS. AFTER THIS INTERACTION I DIDNT COMMENT ON THE DOUBLE BED BEING VERY UNCOMFY. HOUSE WAS LOVELY AND THE STAFF WHERE FRIENDLY. STAND ALONE BATH WAS OUTSTANDING. THE SURROUNDINGS WHERE SCENIC. £430 FOR 2 NIGHTS STAY 1 ROOM 2 ADULTS 2 KIDS. BREAKFAST WAS INCLUDED.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food excellent. The facilities however were very disappointing given the price- the room was small, no chair, the shower one temperature-very hot, the taps leaky. Not good value for money.

Peaceful escape with lovely, friendly service
We had a really enjoyable one night stay at Burythorpe. It's in a beautiful, peaceful location in the countryside but easy enough to reach the wonderful market town of Malton. Our room was huge, and comfortable. One of the highlights was the warm and friendly service we received from everyone.

A few little points
Overall a pleasant stay but a few niggles considering the hotel's price and rating. Whilst I appreciate that there are restrictions in place due to Covid-19, I do feel that it is unacceptable and somewhat embarrassing to have to ask for toilet rolls during your stay . We stayed for 3 nights and were not offered clean towels either. When guests are checked in for a number of nights surely it is not too much to ask for multiple towels and toiletries to be placed in the room prior to arrival. As others have said, the evening meal was nice enough but very expensive and unsubstantial . At breakfast we asked for the scrambled eggs and salmon to be placed on toast only to be told that the toast would come in a toast rack seperately. Would it really have been too difficult to put a slice of toast on the plate in the kitchen and pop the eggs and salmon on the top?

Lovey stay and friendly staff.
Lovely stay in August and staff really friendly. Hotel felt clean and safe. Breakfast was really good and hotel has a relaxed atmosphere. Pool wasn’t open when we visited and would benefit from a kids choice for dinner.

Lovely hotel. We hope to stay again in future.
We had 2 rooms for 1 night. Arrived late so didn't have an evening meal, but the breakfast was good. Both rooms very nice and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Terrible service, wouldn't recommend
Booked for us and our toddler for 2 nights as visiting family locally. Chose this hotel as it had a pool which was great for the toddler. Day before arrival discovered on the hotel's website that the pool was routinely closed for winter. Upon arrival discovered our son was expected to sleep with us as no bed was provided for him. We had a drink in the lounge that evening after which my husband waited 45 minutes to pay for the drinks after I took our son to bed. No one came despite him repeatedly ringing the bell. Terrible nights sleep due to sharing with a toddler. Guessing the people in the next room didn't get a great nights sleep either as our son was up at 6am as it was so uncomfortable. We decided not to stay the second night. Again tried to ring the bell to pay for the drinks and to check out but no answer. Left the keys in the lobby and emailed to say we wouldn't be returning. Received an email back to apologise for the lack of bed and misleading info on hotels.com about the pool and to say they wouldn't charge us for the stay or drinks. Paid £65 in vouchers and £39 on card which was taken on booking. Contacted hotels.com to get the money on card back and ideally some credit for the wasted vouchers. We were told they had requested a refund from the hotel and this has been refused despite the hotel's email to the contrary and there was nothing further they could do. Terrible service, don't waste your money.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting
The staff were friendly, welcoming and very helpful. Chatty but discreet with plenty of local knowledge. The room was excellent, the bathroom in particular being of very high standard. Breakfast was well cooked and nicely presented and offered a good choice. We had one evening meal which again was beautifully cooked. One slight criticism would be the lack of a children's menu. Although the chef was able to make something off menu when asked.

Very small room for£75/night!No bedside reading lights,no lift,menu limited and overpriced.Staff quite rigid about departure time.£50 surcharge if leave later than 11.20am!Hotel had only four rooms occupied,would have welcomed upgrade without a £50 surcharge.

disappointing stay
We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon just as a wedding was finishing. I walked into the hotel and a young lady approached me. I asked where the reception area was and she gestured to a nearby desk up against the wall and told me that was reception. We were shown to our room by another member of staff who did not ask our names or ask for ID The room itself was very small. The wardrobe had one hanger. The window did not open from the top and the bottom section opened but immediately slid shut. The bathroom had a Victorian style shower obviously to try to fit into the ambience of the building. One touch of the tap, which could happen accidently, and the water turned from warm to scalding hot. The was no bar on which to hold when getting in or out of the bath. Not good from a health and safety point of view. My husband warned me that the water might be scalding so I decided to take a bath instead. Lo and behold, just like pre Perestroika Russia, no bath plug! We left in the morning, handed the keys to the manager who did not afford us the courtesy of asking how our stay had been or wish us a safe journey. Nothing at all. I would never stay there again nor would I recommend it.
