Nice place to stay if you want a more tradional place.
The staff were very polite and nice even if they didn’t speak English.
A good place to stay if you have a short term trip in Nara.
The staff were so friendly and welcoming! I was solo travelling and spoke very little Japanese and they were very accommodating! The breakfast was yummy with a beautiful view of the gardens, one of the ladies explained everything on the plate to me, which was helpful. The lady at the front desk also offered me a charger which I needed which was great.

Liked: Staff & service, room comfort
I chose this ryokan since it was the only reasonably priced one in the Nara area. It has a beautiful garden just outside our room and the room itself was comfortable and large. The only downside to the place was the strong smell in the room and the cockroach that I had to kill as it crawled across the room.
The place might cater well for some special kind of people but it honestly not good for tourists. I booked a garden view family room and while the room was spacious, the view was to the roof and not to the garden (2nd floor). While we were the only guests in the hotel - their selection of room for us felt questionable (why not provide the best room if all your rooms are available?). Their chef was taking holiday and while they had plenty of other staff, neither dinner nor breakfast was available when we requested. We didn’t mind shared facilities but it seemed they had only one shared bathroom that sometime can be used by men and sometimes by women, and all signs are in Japanese. Overall, we enjoyed the old inn atmosphere and fully renovated rooms and how clean was everything. But we couldn’t enjoy all the facilities we were looking for - particularly missing a dinner and breakfast is something that shall be communicated clearly and it wasn’t. And be mindful that bathroom hours may differ and not cater to your time preferences.
I went here as a single traveller with little to Japanese language skills and found it amazing. Though the staff had limited English, everything was communicated well and I felt very welcomed and comfortable. It’s very close to all the main attractions of Nara, but out of the way enough to where you’re not surrounded by people all the time. If I ever go back to Nara, I will certainly stay here again.
This is a really beautiful place to stay with an onsen style bathroom, the staff don't really speak English so just be aware to translate or learn phrases. You have to give them your room key when you leave the hotel.
It was a traditional Japanese experience. The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. I slept great and the traditional Japanese breakfast was amazing. It was good to learn more about how things are traditionally done in Japan. The simple act of taking a shower is different. This place allows you to experience that.
