I once interviewed an archaeologist for an article I was working on about the country’s hundreds of towers, castles and forts and he explained about the different design philosophies you can see. This #fort, he said, is in a dreadful defensive position. As a fortification, it is next to worthless. As a show of dominance over the surrounding #town, it’s outstanding. This view from the ramparts really demonstrates that.

We went around 3pm in April. It was a bit hot (around 98 F/38C) but not at all crowded. We had delicious fruit smoothies on our way out as well as some homemade Omani flatbread.

The last #journey of my old Jeep was also one of the most interesting, ranging in-country as far as #Bahla, #Oman 🇴🇲. Sadly, the old #fort there was still under #renovation when I was there in January 2011.
