Postcard Cabins Starved Rock, Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy
10/10 Excellent
"The cabin had everything we needed all we got was food to grill if we wanted and had gas liquid to light our fire. The host stayed communicating durning our stay. I loved it will be doing it again soon."
"Was given a unsuitable room. Reserved a Hanicapped room with rollin shower over a month early. Upon arrival only room available was room with handicapped tub. Wife forced to risk falls to shower. Romm had wasps in bathroom."
"Very disappointed with our stay at Grand Bear Resort. For the price we paid, the resort was poorly maintained and full of issues that should have been addressed long ago.
The in-room fireplace did not work because the resort shuts them off starting April 1st, but this was never disclosed when booking. The whirlpool tub knobs were broken, and the only way to turn the jets on and off was by using the GFI breaker on the outlet. Which I felt was very unsafe. The bathtub also drained extremely slow when showering the bathtub would fill up with water.
One of the biggest safety concerns was the third-floor window in our room opening completely with no protection to prevent someone from falling out. That felt incredibly unsafe, especially for families with children. On top of that, the blinds would not close fully, so we had to hang a towel over the window for privacy.
Cleanliness and upkeep were clearly lacking. There were Hot Cheetos sitting on the elevator floor for over 24 hours before anyone cleaned them up. The ice cream from Tree Top Cafe tasted stale, and the maintenance number listed in the room actually connected to a Budget Blinds store instead of resort staff.
The lazy river was tiny, the hot tub rules saying “no one under 16” were never enforced and it was constantly full of kids, and the “free” miniature golf was basically unusable because there were never any clubs available — staff said people never returned them. The Internet barely worked so no tv"
"Irish Cottage is comparable to any other chain hotel. Just be aware that if you book here you will be charged an extra per night charge on top of your booking price as an “amenity fee”. Buy your own box of Bigelow tea and stay somewhere that won’t add fees for things marketed as “complimentary.”"
"We love staying at Stoney Creek! We have stayed many times with young kids over the past few years. It's a fun and nicely designed space with lots of woodsy charm. Good breakfast options. Lovely to be by the river.
Areas for improvement: The hall and out-front trash receptacles were really crammed during our stay. Rooms could use a good vacuum, especially under furniture. And the three pools/ponds at the front of the building are covered with algae and trash. Would be nice to clean them out or fill them in and landscape them. We remember when the pools/ponds were full of clear water and koi fish."
Riverview Inn & Suites, an Ascend Collection Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"The entrance is amazing with beautiful woodwork, fireplaces and a bronze masterpiece. The staff was so friendly and helpful! The hot breakfast was ample and satisfying. We enjoyed our stay!"
"The entire hotel was very nice. The staff was exceptional. The front desk, staff for friendly, helpful, and really went the extra mile assisting with a couple special requests for kids.
Bartender was friendly, mixed excellent drinks and the prices were fair for a tourist hotel.
Breakfast standard, pool decent
Overall, would highly recommend"
