Budget hotel - great for a work week in a great location. Very friendly staff. Quiet. Clean and comfortable. The Brentwood pub down the road was fantastic - very cheap meals which were excellent.
It was amazing with friendly and accommodating staff.

The hotel building is in obvious need of renovation but our family room was warm and clean. The beds were comfortable. We just wanted somewhere to shower and sleep so it suited our needs and we were not disturbed by noise. We did not want corn flakes for breakfast so we went to Morrisons and had a full English for £6 .

I stayed at the Carlton Park Hotel on a Saturday night with my wife and her brother. We booked a family room which had a double bed and a single bed, and for the price, it wasn’t too bad. The hotel is a bit outdated, but for a quick and affordable stay, it did the job.
When we first walked into the room, there was a bit of an odd smell, but it wasn’t anything unbearable, and we got used to it. The room was also really hot when we arrived, with the radiators cranked up to the max. I’ve seen some past reviews mention cold rooms, so maybe they were trying to compensate for that. Once we turned down the heat and opened the window, the temperature was more comfortable.
The bathroom was clean, and the shower worked just fine. It wasn’t anything luxurious, but it got the job done. The bed itself was okay—comfortable enough for the night—but the pillows were a bit flat, and there was only one per person, which wasn’t ideal.
The view from our window was a little disappointing, though. Looking out across the garden, we could see a window that was falling apart and some wood stacked nearby, which didn’t really add to the aesthetic of the place.
That being said, for the price we paid, it wasn’t a disaster. The TV worked fine, and it was a decent, no-frills place to crash for the night. If you’re just looking for an affordable layover or somewhere to sleep for the night, this place works. I've stayed at much more expensive hotels that offered the same level of comfort, so I was pleasa

I went with students on a school trip.
Out of 5 rooms, all were fine apart from one which had a weird smell. The changed this to another room which was fine.
The 4 room were clean and find to stay in.
We went during the week so it was calm. This may bary if loval events areon, e.g. football.
When we arrived the room was nice clean and tidy. Only 2 pillows on double bed whicb were flat. Would have been better with 2 pillows on each side of the bed as they were so flat.
Was kept awake till around 2.30am with the squeeling of other guests in nearby rooms who kept running up and down the corridors.
Bathroom and shower were brilliant

Decor a little tired but otherwise fine.
Decor is a little bit tired, mostly clean although the shower head hadn't been cleaned in a long while. Staff were pleasant and helpful but have the air of someone that had been dragooned in to manning the desk due to wearing tracksuit bottoms and a puffer jacket. Quite quiet, and the bed was comfortable. Tea, coffee and kettle in the room. WiFi and mobile reception was not good. It was fine for my needs and I slept well.

The 'hotel' is not really fit for regular visitors. We appeared to be the only 'guests'- there were a few, very poorly dressed Asian men around who clearly spoke no English. Breakfast ( which we declined) was white sliced bread, some sort of butter- substitute spread and a PGtips T bag. We were told there was a kettle in the corner. It was all extremely odd. All other facilities- bar, fitness room etc were decaying behind closed doors.
On the plus side, the 2 male staff members who dealt with us were pleasant, polite and brought us extra pillows, towels and a blanket. Possibly these should have been provided in the first place. The bed was reasonably comfortable and the room fairly clean- though had clearly sen better days. No hairdryer, no glasses- just very, very basic.
I would advise caution to anyone thinking of staying there. We only stayed our 4 nights as we had a relative close by so only used the room to sleep.

Jack Nicholson
Around 30+ years ago I went to a wedding here. It was quite a salubrious and luxurious hotel. Possibly the best and poshest in the area.
Skip forward 30 years, it was quite sad to see the decline of this once majestic hotel. There were signs of its once style as when you enter the hotel to reception you see polished marble floors and a grand piano.
However, you’re greeted, in the foyer, with piped piano music that is reminiscent of something you hear in a chapel of rest. You barely see a fellow guest and the ambience deserted corridors left me fearing that Jack Nicholson would pop round the corner screaming ‘Here’s Johnny.’
What guests you do see, are possible housed there under provisions of emergency housing from the local council. A couple of guests were regularly smoking in the foyer entrance which resulted in walking through a haze of stale smoke to get into the entrance.
My room was dated which seemed to have the decor of the 1980s, which again had thinking of the set of the Shinning. Only one pillow on the bed, I’m fussy for two pillow comfort.
The breakfast was advertised as £6.99 for a continental, but seeing pictures, I didn’t fancy just cornflakes, an apple and toast so I gave this a miss and got a breakfast meal deal, £3.60, a Costa coffee, a large fruit punnet and a croissants from the nearby Tesco Express.
On the positive side, what little staff there were, they were pleasant, polite and attentive. The room was very clean and the quite comfy.
Just awful 😞 a large empty car park except for one car and a smashed glass bar door covered up with a piece of plywood greeted you when you drove in. It spoke volumes really. We checked in which was pleasant enough by a helpful young man, and checked out again 5 minutes later.
Not a good sign when the cleaning team were still cleaning the bedrooms at 4.30pm. But the main thing was the overwhelming smell of the corridors and the rooms was enough to make your eyes water and you could still smell it long after you had left. A heady combination of Jeys fluid and a woody 1960s hippy joss sticks aroma. Made you feel quite sick and headachy to be honest. There was no escape, it was everywhere.
On folding back the duvet there was brownish paper flecks (?) on the white sheet, no idea what they were.
Then in one of the dressing table draws there was drugs paraphernalia, used cigarette ends, shreds of baccy, one random playing card and white powder residue 😱 we shut the drawer and decide to check out of there.
When we told the young guy on reception, he was most apologetic and offered us to change bedrooms to some downstairs, but we politely declined and we’re heading towards the door by this point.
We were looking forward to our stay there but it just wasn’t for us. The owners had really tried but I think it’s a continuous money pit for them.
It might be cheap if you are watching the pennies and want somewhere to crash for the night, but definitely not cheerful.
the room had a smell like old appliances smell, the wall in the bath tub were not cleaned and I had no hot water in the middle of the night around 1am as I wanted to shower after a long wedding day. Overall stay was okay
