In desperation, the villagers decided to make a procession to ask all the saints for help. The bishop, followed by women, paraded with torches throughout the city leading the English to believe that the villagers had received reinforcements. The next day the English finished the siege and left. The statue is a work of the New Zealand artist Lindsay Dean who carved it to commemorate the 450 years of San Juan.
