O ataque foi frustado e então os ingleses fizeram um bloqueio naval tentando minar a resistencia dos moradores. No desespero, os moradores resolveram fazer uma procissão para pedir ajuda a todos os santos. O bispo, seguido por mulheres, desfilaram com tochas por toda a cidade levando os ingleses a acreditar que os moradores tinham recebido reforços. No dia seguinte os ingleses terminaram o cerco e foram embora. A estátua é uma obra do artista Neozelandês Lindsay Dean que a esculpiu para comemorar os 450 anos de San Juan. In 1797 an English fleet entered the bay willing to attack the city. The attack was frustrated and then the English made a naval blockade trying to undermine the resistance of the residents. In desperation, the villagers decided to make a procession to ask all the saints for help. The bishop, followed by women, paraded with torches throughout the city leading the English to believe that the villagers had received reinforcements. The next day the English finished the siege and left. The statue is a work of the New Zealand artist Lindsay Dean who carved it to commemorate the 450 years of San Juan.

Fortificações deste mesmo tipo dos séculos 17 e 18 podem ser encontradas por toda a América Latina. Em 1983 foi declarado Patrimônio Mundial pela UNESCO. Castillo San Felipe del Morro was designed primarily to protect the port of San Juan from attacks by sea. It owes its name to Philip II of Spain. Fortifications of this type from the 17th and 18th centuries can be found throughout Latin America. In 1983 it was declared World Heritage by UNESCO.

#SanJuan #PuertoRico Tótem Telúrico - Plaza Del Quinto Centenario A Plaza Del Quinto Centenario foi construída em 1992 para comemorar os 500 anos do descobrimento da América. O Totem de 12 metros de altura, no cimo da praça, é uma obra do artista Porto-riquenho Jaime Suárez e é feito de granito negro e argila. Na parte baixa da praça tem uma bela fonte. The Plaza Del Quinto Centenario was built in 1992 to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America. The 12-meter high Totem at the top of the square is a work of Puerto Rican artist Jaime Suárez and is made of black granite and clay. In the lower part of the square there is a beautiful fountain.
