Restful, relaxing stay - a little different
What a great find, tucked just slightly off the beaten track, countryside views surrounding this stone former school-house, peaceful relaxing and welcoming stay, Such a friendly couple, Fred will also keep you company if required :) (family pet). The room has all you'll need, Iron, Kettle, hairdryer, En-suite shower room, chairs, desk, TV. Food is great, i make no exaggeration here, spending my working week up and down the country in various hotels and eateries, the portion is just right, very tasty fresh and healthy. The school-house is something a little different, it's nice but not too fancy, a place to relax and sleep, guests are friendly and pricing is very competitive for the area. I enjoyed my stay and hope to be back when over that way. Thanks for the lovely stay Karen.

Out of the way
Lovely out of the way place. Fred (the dog) was very welcoming as of course was Karen. Food was excellent, room very comfortable and service fantastic. Definitely will return when I’m the area

It's challenging to give a rating, because it all depends on what you want. An anodyne Marriott/Hilton experience it ain't, so if that's what you want you will not like it. This is more like a B&B. Charming. Friendly. Memorable. It's not perfect, but all the more lovable for it.

A lesson for the Schoolhouse
They were still recommending use of out of date COVID policies (2 m distance not even 1 m distance and masks). For the first time ever in any hotel, they also wanted the customer to take away their own rubbish. Also, you had to have breakfast in your room, booked the night before. If anyone did have COVID it would be more likely covering the breakfast remains than old newspapers or trash? Restaurant service unavailable?

Awful attitude from the staff. We did not stay. I booked for an employee and they refused a room without my card, even though I had paid in full for it. Refused to speak on the telephone with me when I spoke to my employee. I had to ring the hotel. Rude, unfriendly and very unwelcoming. I book multiple hotels every week and never have I encountered a hotel with attitudes like this!

Quirky, time warp or simply run down - you decide. The bar which included the lounge seating was closed. Drinks were supplied to rooms meaning no chance to chat with other guests - or be comfortable. Breakfast was good, evening meal was very odd with Michelin prices. Eat up the road! Easily walkable. Lovely dining room, but cold in February! I was not given the option to review my account, the extras had already been charged to my card. I did get a receipt emailed later.

Lovely peaceful location
Quiet and peaceful location but close to the M4 junction 16. You get a very friendly welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The rooms could use a little updating but they are warm, good size and clean. Would thoroughly recommend.

We stayed in the room called ‘Gordonstoun’. The room itself was lovely enough, until we were woken up about a dozen times by rats/mice scuffling around in between the walls and ceiling which was pretty loud. I thought they were going to nibble through the wall at one point. When I messaged the owner via Expedia actually during the stay, they acknowledged that there could be a mouse problem and that they would set traps to prevent the issue going forward, no apology was received for the sleepless night. We didn’t stay for the breakfast as we were so tired from the lack of sleep.

This is not a hotel. We arrived at 11:30 and knew we could not check in until 17:00 but just wanted a coffee whilst we waited for family to arrive. We were bluntly told "no you will have to go somewhere else and come back at 3". We had to wait in the car! We returned at 16:10 but could not get a drink as the bar was not open until 17:00, again we couldn't even get a coffee! Not really what you expect from a hotel.

Quaint stay in old schoolhouse
We stayed at The Schoolhouse at very short notice and chose it due to the proximity to Royal Wootton Bassett. It is quite a quirky hotel but full of character. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who is part of the management team who run it, they own a very friendly dog Freddie who was also keen to greet us. The building is dated but full of character, as you would expect the furniture has an antique feel to it but the bed was very comfortable. We ate in the restaurant which has high ceilings and is the old school classroom, there was a lovely fire burning in the wood burner and the room was very quaint and cosy, the Christmas tree set if off very well and it was a smashing atmosphere to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. The menu was quite varied but not inexpensive, although the food was very tasty. They do afternoon teas and functions which I imagine would be very popular in the setting. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again.

What a disappointment!
Being pounced on constantly by the over zealous Dutch landlady reprimanding us for minor misdemeanours did little to endear us to the hotel. Overall it was shabby and quite disappointing compared with the other hotels we booked via hotels.com for other towns and cities. A real shame as we were really looking forward to this one the most!

Most enjoyable
Although we only stayed for one night, it was very enjoyable .Our bed was very comfortable and the room spacious. The hotel is full of character and in a beautiful setting. Every one was very friendly including the lovely black dog who greeted us when we arrived. Would certainly stay there again.

Nice country location, rooms clean and well appointed. The place is a bit eccentric and clearly has "ways of doing things" food is not cheap, although I didn't eat it seems to be high standard. I would definitely stay again.

Schoolhouse Stay
Very warm and freindly welcome with a speedy check in awaits you. A clean and airy room with a comfortable bed with fantastic surrounding views. Royal Wootton Bassett is just a short mini cab ride away. A great stay, I will be staying here again.

Hotel With Lots Of Character.
I was slightly apprehensive on arrival but any concerns were soon forgotten after being warmly welcomed by the lady owner. The room was large very clean and comfortable and the power hub with extra sockets and USB charger was a nice touch. My colleague who also stayed asked if she could provide a gluten free menu and we were told it was not a problem. We chose however to explore Wooten Bassett town centre which is only a mile and a half away and our host provided us with local taxi numbers. The town is great with real ales and a choice of Indian, Italian and a Chinese restaurant. The Indian was superb. Looking forward to revisiting.

Had to pay an additional £30 to park my van. Toilet seat had feaces on from the previous guest Read up said it gad restaurnt and bar however this wasnt correct on our Sunday arrival

The Schoolhouse Hotel, Swindon
Prima locatie om te overnachten op doorreis van Nederland naar Ierland en vice versa. Het ligt vlakbij de snelweg en toch mooi in de natuur. De eigenaren (NL-EN echtpaar) zijn persoonlijk en gastvrij. Er is een gemoedelijke sfeer. Het is een prachtig gebouw, doet denken aan een oud kerkje. Je kunt binnen en buiten zitten. Er wordt eten van prima kwaliteit geserveerd. Wij hadden een zeer smakelijke sirloin steak en speciaal aanbevolen is de bread& butter-pudding. Alles bij elkaar hadden wij een prima verblijf, op de terugreis hebben we dan ook van hetzelfde hotel gebruik gemaakt.

A really nice hotel, quaint and rural location
Very quaint and genuine hotel, former school (looks like a church) in a rural quiet location. Excellent free wireless internet too. The old school also has a pub and a nice restaurant. Very nice landlady that told us the story of the place. This was definitely a very pleasant surprise - we were just looking for a reasonably priced hotel to spend the night before returning to Heathrow. If ever in the area again I would not even consider other places.

the facilities are old but reasonably well maintained. this is a quiet, small town bnb. the owner/manager couple are helpful and friendly. convenient overnight location if you are driving and visiting the surrounding area as we were.
