The Wannian (Ten Thousand Years) temple on Emei Shan (Beautiful Mei Mountain) is a place of serene atmosphere. The quiet is impressive, the architecture is very nice and the atmosphere is imposing. As you enter the compound the first thing you see is a walled pond with fish, turtles, stones and money. Believers throw in paper money and coins, and monks take it out with a net. Inside the main pavilion is a statue of a golden Buddha on a white marble elephant. In front of this statue people bow, kneel and pray. In the back believers gently stoke the elephant's legs for reasons I didn't manage to figure out.

We've been in china for over 5 weeks and visited Taizhou as a stop over for two nights, making our way inland. Amazing hotel. Great room. Incredible service and fabulous buffet breakfast.
