“The room was very clean and the staff was lovely”

“Excellent 2 night stay at the Hare and hounds. Such a lovely well presented pub and very nicely decorated rooms, Our room was named "The Flying Duck" and it was perfect. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was amaizing. Breakfast both mornings was fab and fresh Its an easy 20 minute walk into Newbury but if walkings not your thing its a short drive with lots of pay and display parking in the town centre. On the topic of parking loads of free parking in the carpark...

“I booked two rooms, one for myself the other for my son. When we arrived we were given keys to our respective rooms and another for external door entry outside of opening hours. My key was just loose with no number. We were told that we could have a drink at the bar but needed to go immediately as it was about to close. The nice young lady who booked us in appeared to serve drinks. We sat down to have our beers on stained and tacky looking chairs and a large dog appeared and came and joined...

“Room wasnt the biggest but perfectly formed. Only disappointment was the shower was over a bath - difficult for me being slightly disabled to get in & out of. ”

“In a lovely historic building set within pleasant grounds, especially as the wisteria was in flower. Very helpful staff, lovely room and comfortable bed. The breakfast was perhaps a little disappointing- dry basic with little choice of healthy cereal or cooked food if you are vegetarian. Overall very good though.”

“Small car park, clean room but very dated. Uncomfortable bed - very springy and well used!! Noisy late into night from pub below. Lovely lady booked us in on Friday but bar man not very friendly. Breakfast not included in price”

“Unsatisfactory. No kettle in the room—I had to ask twice. Restaurant service was slow and inattentive. The steak pie had very little gravy, and the same staff member was on her phone at the service counter, so I couldn’t request more. No offer of dessert. The bedroom door emits a mini alarm when opened, which is irritating late at night. The walls are thin, with corridor doors slamming and disrupting sleep. At breakfast, up to five staff were gathered near reception, coming and going for drinks,...

“Gorgeous hotel room right in the heart of Marlborough! We booked the room with the golden bath which was such a treat. The breakfast offering was very generous and the room had everything you could need (it would be helpful to have some bath products by the side of the bath, as the shower gel etc in the shower were attached to the wall which made it tricky). Otherwise 10/10!”

“The food was excellent - both breakfast and evening meal. Full fresh cooked breakfast included in the cost of the room. Proper Americano coffee served at no extra cost with breakfast! I had a glass of champagne with the evening meal and it was chilled, bubbly and perfect. ”
