WOW, this hotel made our Venice trip. Housed in 600 year old building, the hotel was ornate, elegant, and filled with period furniture which made you feel like you stepped back in time. From the moment we arrived at the hotel dock, the staff made it very clear that everything and anything we need will be taken care of, and it was. The hotel even offers a complimentary boat ride to Murano island w/ a glass factory tour. We booked a grand room, and the room was incredibly spacious and the decor again made us feel like we were transported back in the heyday of Venice. The only thing I can think of that people might be put off by is that this hotel is very elegant and at times can make you feel a little out of place if you are not used to European 5 star hotels; think old money, versus trendy. However, If you are traveling to Venice for the first time and want that true venetian experience, then look no further than Hotel Metropole. Very happy with this hotel and will come back.

GOOD - Hotel and rooms were very clean, the staff was very friendly, welcoming and would do whatever they could to please you. Great location too! BAD - Horrible air conditioning, room never went below 20.5C. Breakfast was limited, with soggy wet scrambled eggs and gross coffee. $30 Euros for mixed alcohol drinks, ridiculous!

Hotel was great. I think though that I might have been shilled by the VERY early morning night manager. I told him that I had used several mini bar items and he advised that he couldn't take the charge on a CC but would have to pay cash. It was only about $35 USD but then I saw a $35 charge on my CC in addition to my room charges ($3000). I'd stay there again in a heart beat but I would NOT trust a night manager again...
