First, remember that this is a very old building in York, so no elevator for its 3 stories and 16 rooms. Also no air conditioning or fans, and we were there on a rare warm day!
There's a cute little bar and patio, a decent cafe/breakfast room and a communal refrigerator (unusual) in the lobby.
We have allergies and didn't realize that dogs are allowed (as is somewhat common in UK), but our double-sized family room was very clean and had nice amenities. The 5 of us shared a room with a double and single and an adjoining room with two twins. We had our own private bathroom, and were also just steps to two hallway toilets.
York Priory is very convenient to walking along the river to the old town, and to a grocery, eateries and more. We would have stayed more than one night but they had no rooms available. "We're very popular," said the attendant.
Two other comments, the front and side rooms overlook a busy street that gets noisy early in the mornings. And though the hotel has a good-sized parking lot in the back, it's a bit tricky to get to the first time. The adjacent streets are VERY narrow and all one-way. Check your GPS (they call it SatNav) carefully and watch so that you turn in right next to the hotel. We missed it the first time and it took 15 minutes to get back there.
