The grounds are stunning with so much potential but it feels very much a work in progress. We used paddle boards on the lake, which was fab but an additional charge on top of a very expensive room. The sauna wasn’t quite up to heat, we stoked the wood burning hot tub for a dip, tried the lake to cool off and the cold plunge was unfortunately empty. The room was nice and clean. I booked the junior suite but ended up getting a suite. It didn’t feel any more special than a deluxe room elsewhere and was the most expensive one night I’ve ever paid for. Don’t expect any alcohol if you pay extra for the mini bar. The TV didn’t work in the room and the shower was over the bath rather than a nice standalone. The toiletries smelt lovely and the aircon didn’t respond to any changes we tried to make so we had to turn it off and had an uncomfortably warm night. We ate at the pub with no complaints but as breakfast wasn’t included in the room we swerved it. The outdoor pool was a lovely addition which is mainly why I chose this hotel over others as the weather was warm. All in all a lovely stay but not very good value for money.

Hotel is beautiful and everything is super chic.. loved our stay, staff very helpful and the areas to chill, drink, eat and relax are good. Disappointing experience . When I informed reception at 6.15 pm that we had no water for the bath or shower I was told there wasn't any maintenance available . So neither I or my wife could have a shower that evening or the next morning ( today ) . On check out I reminded the manager of this problem , but no redress or discount was offered ; until I asked for a discount . Even then the only discount offered was the removal of the service charge on the evening meal ( as this charge was discretionary I could have refused to pay it anyway ) . When paying £250 per night , the least that can be expected is running water !

Had a lovely stay at Powdermills. This is a real hidden gem - beautiful grounds, comfortable room, friendly attentive staff, lovely food etc Decor a bit dated and tired, but understand due for a refresh soon.

Great Business Stay

Quick and friendly check in. My room was away from the main hotel in a separate building. The condition and facilities in the room were as expected. Bed was very comfortable. Food in the restaurant was good, the service from all staff I encountered was fantastic. Would definitely stay again.

fantastic stay and lovely hotel

a great stay. the grounds are beautiful and lovely to sit with a drink overlooking the lake. All the staff were a credit to the establishment so friendly and helpful. lovely room with a balcony. it is an old building which is part of its charm, the balcony area needed a bit of tlc, the room however was lovely and a really comfy bed. would return in a heartbeat

Wonderful grounds with footpath right into Battle village. Lovely room with balcony, although the balcony could have done with a good sweep. Considering the large size of the room the guest experience would have been much enhanced by the addition of a small fridge. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Needs refurb

Hotel is set in beautiful grounds, but the hotel itself needs some refurbishing. We had a standard room which was OK, but the bathroom needs an update. We expected a shower, however it had a bath with a handset, very little water pressure as not pumped & water temperature went hot & cold. Extremely difficult to use as a shower. Also cracked floor tiles. Two windows in the room, but only one opened. The other has been painted over so wouldn't open. No central light, only bedside lights so room quite dark. Breakfast was a buffet, with a cooked breakfast to order. Nothing special, but quite nice with a good selection. We didn't feel the quality of the room etc warranted the price we paid. We would not return.
