The Merchant is a fantastic location to stay when visiting Salem. It is in close proximity to popular sites, shopping, and restaurants. Our room was spacious and well appointed. The staff was very helpful with their suggestions as well as contacting us about an item we left behind. Would definitely stay there again!

Of our 3 stays in Salem, the Merchant was hands down our favourite and well worth it. Beautiful older building with older charm. Gorgeous and spacious room we stayed in. The staff are what really sell this place though - they are very friendly and helpful. The location absolutely cannot be beat, with all the fun downtown charms of Salem literally right outside your doorstep while still being peaceful and quiet overnight. The only thing worth noting is that the whole place is not wheelchair accessible however, there is a ramp and I assume that possibility for the first floor of the building just stairs only access to the upper floors to note both for any disability or lots of luggage (the staff were amazing and took our insanely hefty bags up said stairs for us to room after dropping bags off prior to checking in). We would hands down stay here and book around their availability the next trip we end up in Salem again.

Superb property. Great location - immaculately decorated with such class and fun all rolled into one! Staff were wonderfully helpful and the kitchen area was stocked with interesting snacks and drinks. The only confusing part is where the back door is and are you just about to knock on a private home but perhaps that adds to the "whimsy" feel of the entire property. Will definitely stay there again. 10/10

This was one of my favorite places to stay! Its a beautiful location to stay with a rich history. The staff was fantastic answering all of my many questions and even sending information when the walkways would be slippery. Also, their scones in the morning were incredible. Lovely historic home with well appointed rooms. I love that there are food and snacks available at all times and on different levels of the house we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and when returning to Salem will stay again. Everything was wonderful, and the bed and pillows were like sleeping on a cloud. What a nice property. Good coffee and lots of prepared snacks ready to grab any time. The only odd thing is that check-in is after 4PM, and the desk closes at 5PM. If you can't be there during that hour, you can check-in online, and they arrange for you to get in after hours, which did work well.
