  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. The hotel itself felt cosy and stylish, and it was such a nice place to come back to after a busy day out. It had that calm boutique feel rather than feeling busy or impersonal. We honestly couldn’t have picked a better base for our trip and would happily stay here again. Only downside they didn't do food with room service

Excellent location. Rooms are not convenient. Open bathrooms, poor lighting, and unusable sofa beds. The photos on Expedia are not accurate and the rooms are not as nice as the photos make it seem. The faniiy residence in particular is not something i would ever stay at if i had a choice.

Lovely reception. Let us check in early always a big bonus. Walkable to nearly everything of interest. Some of the best beers I’ve tasted in my 69 yrs on this plane

If you’re looking for a next level stay in Bruges this is the spot… I upgraded to one of the mansion rooms and it was absolutely well worth it so much space beautiful amenities within the room, the bathroom the king size bed. Even the drinks in the room with excellent value you don’t feel like you’re being ripped off at €3 - all of the staff are amazing, treat yourself to breakfast. It is incredible and if you have time sit by the fire and get a cocktail and relax. Central, you can walk around Bruges so easily - I stayed here for six days and next time I come to bruges, I’ll be staying here again… thank you to all the staff who made my stay absolutely wonderful

A gem in Bruges!

The bed was so comfortable, and the room was huge! The hotel was modern and clean, and the staff very attentive. The bar had good cocktails and the breakfast was great, though a bit expensive. It was well located near the city centre and main attractions, but a bit out of the way so it was nice and quiet. Overall we would 100% stay here again.
