"I will start off this review by saying I really didn't want to leave this type of review as motels get a bad rep for this to begin with. We stayed at Motel Bear Lake on Friday, 5/15. On Monday night, 5/18 we discovered a bed bug in our home. I immediately called the owner, Marta, to notify her. We had an inspection done to confirm it is a bed bug, but it is early on so not an infestation. Marta was proactive and had an inspection done, promised to rectify the situation to pay half of our service treatment bill, and to refund our stay. I loved the response and action from a small business owner from this unlucky situation everyone was involved in. Our service specialist stated it's likely the bed bug hitchhiked to Bear Lake Motel on a guest and then hitchhiked home with us.
Well, it is now 5/21 and Marta has stated there are no visual bed bugs they could locate, it can two weeks for bed bugs to hatch, so they will NOT be paying half of our service treatment, we have yet to see the refund, and that any further questions can be directed to her attorney.
For the health and safety of my family, with a 1 year and 2 year old, I will be having my home treated. I am disappointed that Marta could not assist us with resolving this more amicably given we 100% received bed bugs from her place of business. Hotels/motels have a responsibility to ensure their guests' experience is safe, clean, and pest-free. If they fail this duty, should rectify the situation for the guest."
