With new COVID-19 safety guidelines to adhere to, travel looks a lot different today. These are some handy things to know before you hop on that plane to Byron Bay Hinterland:

• Understand what, if any, restrictions or rules apply to both your destination and origin. You may not be able to travel depending on local circumstances, so be sure to check before you book your flight.
• Requirements state you must wear a face mask at the airport, including at screening checkpoints. Be ready to lower your mask for ID purposes when asked by a TSA officer.
• You're no longer required to hand your boarding pass directly to a TSA employee. Instead, position your pass on the scanner and then hold it up so the agent can inspect it.
• You are now allowed to take one container of hand sanitizer up to 12 oz (350 ml) in your carry-on bag. This will need to be taken out for X-ray scanning.
• To minimize handling during screening, place items such as your phone and loose change into your carry-on instead of into the bins.
• Transport any food items in a clear plastic bag and also put them in a screening bin. Keeping food separate from your carry-on makes it less likely that a TSA employee will need to touch and open your bag for inspection.
