Depending on where you're coming from, your trip to Center Island could be completely painless or it could go on forever. We've rounded up some handy travel tips that will help you start your next great adventure on a positive note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- A plane ride can be a comfortable experience if you bring the right stuff. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare pair of socks and something to read. Secondly, find room in your hand luggage for your phone, tablet and chargers, your important medications and maybe a proper neck pillow as well. Lastly, and most importantly, remember to take your passport, travel docs and some money.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Put all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated by security. Pointed or sharp objects, like your beloved pocket knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosols and strong acids, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- Your goal here is to be as comfortable as possible. Layer up with loose, natural fibers and take a pullover in case it gets cool in the cabin. Always go with flat, well-fitting shoes as it's possible that your feet and ankles will swell a little during the journey. Leave the high heels and hiking boots in your checked luggage.
- The condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a potential risk on long-haul flights. It results from blood clotting due to poor circulation and inactivity. Walking up and down the aisle and doing leg and foot exercises in your seat is a great way to prevent this from happening. Wearing a quality pair of compression tights or socks is also a wise idea.
