Wherever you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've planned ahead. We've put together a list of handy hints that will get your Loch Broom vacation started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- It's simple — first, put in your passport, travel docs, cash and daily medications. Next, you'll want some extra in-flight entertainment to help pass the time. A thrilling novel and a laptop filled with your favorite movies are some great options. If you plan to catch up on some sleep, a neck pillow and some earplugs will also come in handy. Finally, squeeze in a toothbrush and some cleansing wipes so you'll step off the plane feeling fresh and raring to go.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- While the list of restricted items differs between air carriers, the general rule of thumb is avoid carrying anything sharp, flammable or explosive. This includes things like screwdrivers, blades, aerosol cans and bleaching agents. Sports equipment like bows and arrows, and objects that could harm other people, such as firearms and swords, aren't allowed in the cabin either.
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of an airplane are not the best place for a fashion parade. Layer yourself up with comfortable clothes and take a sweater as it tends to get cool in the cabin during long-haul flights. Flat, slightly roomy shoes are also a sensible choice.
- Most travelers have heard about DVT (deep vein thrombosis), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. There are plenty of ways to lessen your risk. Wear compression socks or tights, drink plenty of water and remember to keep your legs and feet moving. Do a lap or two of the cabin or try out some exercises in your seat.
