We've rounded up all the info you need to make your flight as pain-free as possible. Follow our tips and you'll be speeding through airport security and having a ball in Sac City in next to no time. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- Air travel can be a great experience if you carry the right gear. Firstly, you'll need basic toiletries, such as a toothbrush and lip balm, a fresh set of clothes and a good read. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any vital medications and maybe a neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, don't forget to bring your passport, travel papers and your bank cards.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Make sure you don't have sharp objects (like a knife or scissors) hiding in one of the zippers of your hand luggage. Other prohibited items include flammable or explosive substances, such as bleach and fuel, and liquids and gels in containers with a volume of more than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters).
What to wear on a flight:
- Your aim here is to feel as comfortable as possible. Layer up in natural-fiber clothing and pack a pullover in case it gets cold in the cabin. Go for a pair of roomy, flat shoes as your feet may swell during the flight. Leave the high heels and heavy boots in your checked baggage.
- The condition known as DVT (deep vein thrombosis) can pose a risk on long-distance flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to inactivity and poor circulation. Walking around the cabin and doing regular leg and foot exercises in your seat helps to prevent this from occurring. Wearing a quality pair of compression socks or tights may also help.
