Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you've prepared well enough. We've made a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Seal escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane trip can be easy if you've got all the right gear. Firstly, you'll want some basic toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a spare set of clothes and something to read. Secondly, find a spot in your bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any medications and perhaps a quality neck pillow as well. Last, but definitely not least, remember to take your passport, travel papers and some money.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• While the list of prohibited items differs between air carriers, the general guide to follow is avoid carrying anything flammable, sharp or explosive. This includes tools, metal cutlery, aerosol cans and bleaching agents. Sporting equipment like hockey sticks, and objects that could injure passengers, such as pepper spray and firearms, won't be allowed on board either.

What to wear on a flight:

• You'll want to choose comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes in the cabin by layering up, and opt for flat, closed-toe shoes like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by lengthy periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Try to walk around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

The answer is simple — be organized. We've compiled some helpful hints for a stress-free trip through security. Look out Seal, here you come:

• Airport security personnel first need to know that you have a valid ID and matching travel documents before anything else. Keep them close by.
• Time to strip down. Well sort of. Your coat, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them before your turn arrives.
• All your electronic gadgets, including your tablet and phone, are also required to be scanned separately.
• Any liquids or gels, such as shampoo or hairspray, that you want to bring on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). They must also all fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.
• There's a good chance you'll need to take your shoes off for scanning, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a clever idea.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, pack them safely away in your checked luggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
