“The pub is an old building, therefore there are things that cannot be changed, so if you are a light sleeper and cannot use ear plugs this may not be for you. It was not an issue for us. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was excellent, we had one evening meal there, breakfast was perfect, they were very accommodating by tweaking the menu to what you prefer.
Very close to the caves and gorge, easy to access other attractions.”
“can not fault the stay .. super clean .. super friendly .. great breakfast pub across the road is spot on .. the only problem was I didn't book a longer stay
thanks for the stay highly recommend”
“Fantastic spot. The rooms are modern, clean and the beds extremely comfortable. Felt like a modern hotel and not a classic inn.
Staff seemed a little grumpy, maybe the heat!
Rooms have AC which was great.
They offer Bristol airport parking fee and you can taxi to the airport so it's a great spot if you're flying in and out of Bristol.
We used it as a halfway point from Cornwall to midlands. Just 7 mins to cheddar gorge.
Highly recommend.”
“Room was great, clean and comfortable.
Bar staff unfortunately didn't seem to know what they were doing and we were overcharged but staff on front desk were very helpful
Breakfast was good for most of our party but not much for a dairy intolerance.
Games room was a pound for each game.
Great and convenient that it is right next to The Wookey caves.”
“Called for one while exploring the Somerset Levels. Perfect location for managed to book the last room, this was the largest of all the rooms available comfortable, clean & very spacious. The propriter was very welcoming on arrival and made us tea to take in the rear.”
“Sam, the general manager greeted us warmly on arrival, was very helpful, friendly and professional.
Our courtyard room was clean and comfortable with a garden table just outside the door.
Plenty of tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
Dinner and breakfast were both plentiful and delicious.
Highly recommended for a stay in the Mendips with dogs.”
“Really enjoyed our overnight stay in the King Penguin room at the Sheep & Pigeon. Room was very clean, comfortable, well equipped and quiet. We had a lovely evening meal . Recommend the River Teign mussels . Staff were welcoming & attentive .”
“Thanks Ray and the team, for a lovely stay. Hotel/pub was located in centre of Axbridge, just around the corner from a free 48hrs car park and handy for getting around to surrounding areas like cheddar gorge etc. Room was a lot more spacious than we anticipated, it was spotless, with daily change of towels and top ups to tea and coffee facilities. Staff were really nice and accomodating and it was nice to meet some of the locals too in what seems like a really friendly little community....
“The room was very clean and modern. However there was no way to open the window and we couldn’t switch the aircon off completely so only had 2.5 hours of sleep due to noise. Felt like we were locked into a synthetic prison”
“A 3-star hotel / bed-and-breakfast - very personal, friendly service. The hotel is visited daily by locals buying newspapers. All meals cooked to order, including breakfast - a nice change to the usual experience in hotels nowadays.
We turned up at about 4.30pm to find opening time was 5pm - we must have missed this in the instructions. The hotel was open promptly at 5 pm however. On the Sunday the bar closed at 5pm so dinner had to be elsewhere - not a problem for us as we always tend to have...
“The room was very spacious and comfortable everything and more was provided for our stay. Was offered a cream tea on arrival which of course we excepted. There was a great choice at breakfast. Terri was a wonderful host full of local knowledge. Would highly recommend. Crosscombe was a lovely village with a great pub serving good food. There was a bar at the b and b.”
