The Bike Depot is conveniently located for exploring Assateague Island. Rent by the day or by the hour. It's an easy way to get to the beach and they rent beach chairs and other gear to make the most of the day.

Chincoteague Island is near the Assateague Island National Seashore, http://www.nps.gov/asis/index.htm. The Assateague Island is the home of the wild horses you may have read about in Marguerite Henry's book Misty of Chincoteague. The horses still live on Assateague and every year they swim across the channel to Chincoteague for the "pony penning," where some are auctioned off.
The horses are making their yearly swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. The first pony to make it onshore is crowned the King or Queen Neptune and is given away in a raffle. The "Saltwater Cowboys" help corral them when they make it onshore.
