The hotel was beautiful and breakfast was great. We were unaware that we had booked a ground floor room that exited to the outside. To their credit they later offered us a room in the main house but it was on the third floor (no biggie) but the entire house is run off a single thermostat.

This is a beautiful historic building. There was no staff on hand. Everything is via keyless entry and text. Our room was on the third floor. If you have issues with climbing stairs or carrying your bags up flights of stairs that could be a problem. Our bathroom was private to us, but it was across the hall which I did not know in advance. Because we get up in the night to use the facilities, that was a bit of an issue. There was a hot cooked breakfast, but it was not "bed and breakfast" quality fare. It was filling, however.

We stayed in room #1. It was a large room with a large bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the room contained nice appointments. We had breakfast each morning which was ready at 9am,. Coffee and quick eat breakfast items were available before then. The inn is located near a very nice area of restaurants and shops. Outdoor activities were nearby as well, a very nice park, moderate hiking trail up a hillside overlooking lake Coeur d’Alene. And, close access to lake and lake amenities. All of the above were in a short walking distance of the inn. I would highly recommend and would stay there again.

We never saw any staff, only through texts, a very nice location and beautiful property, and liked the kitchen with a lot of things. We didn't eat their cooked breakfast, but were happy to have bagels and cream cheese for the road.

This is a bed & breakfast in a well maintained historic building. Pros: It is in walking distance to the lake, very convenient location. The rooms are clean and freshly-made breakfast is very good. Staff are friendly, and online check-in is smooth. Cons: We stayed in Room 5, which has its separate bathroom across the hallway. The bathroom has no window curtain, and one of the lamps was not working properly. The bed seemed fragile, a tiny movement could make noises in the bed. If you want to experience the historic building with nice decor in a convenient location, I would recommend try other rooms in this property.

The hotel is in a good location, within walking distance to restaurants and the lake. We were not aware that the hotel is not staffed at check-in time. We had to call the number on the door to get the codes to get into our room. Expedia had sent us the codes ahead of time but we didn't have access to our email so we didn't know about that. Our room in the "Carriage House" had some cleanliness issues so we called the hotel again. The manager offered to clean another room and move us which was much better. The breakfast is at 9:00am but we had to leave by 8:00am so the manager offered to come in early for us. Overall, we appreciated the willingness of the manager to accommodate us but we found the rooms in the carriage house to be in poor condition and not worth the price. We didn't see the rooms in the main house, though.

The Blackwell is currently a hotel and event center. I was told the house was constructed in 1905 and for several years operated as a B&B, which is pretty close to what we experienced for our one night stay! Great breakfast and amenities! Our bedroom was small but very comfortable. I took lots of pictures because it was so beautifully restored!
