"The hotel is lovely overall, but it feels a little tired in places, with some short-term fixes rather than longer-term solutions. Our room was very warm, and a sign advised calling reception as the air conditioning was decommissioned. When I did, the response felt quite dismissive, focusing on the fact that air-con wasn’t included in the booking. I wasn’t expecting it as a given, just following the instructions for help — especially as we were travelling with a 3-month-old and the room was uncomfortable. It only really felt like help was offered once I mentioned the baby; to their credit, a fan was then found and brought up. It does feel unusual to have air-con units installed but not in use, particularly for a busy 4-star hotel where room rates aren’t low. Even at 22°C outside, the room was too warm, so this is likely to become more of an issue in summer. There were also a few small details that stood out — the TV was unplugged and needed moving to access the socket, and breakfast service was slow. Coffee beyond a basic cafetière at breakfast is chargeable; my latte was over £4, but didn’t taste barista-made and felt out of step with the pricing. I did enjoy my stay, but it was these small, slightly surprising touches that detracted from what could otherwise be a really strong experience."

"We stayed for two nights after booking what was advertised as a four‑star relaxing luxury spa hotel with spectacular views. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of those expectations. On arrival, the hotel was clearly under renovation, with builders present and brick dust throughout parts of the property. The hotel is also located directly on a very busy main road, which significantly impacts the sense of peace and relaxation. While the reception and restaurant areas appear to have been recently refreshed, the remainder of the hotel feels tired and run down. We paid extra for a suite advertised with lake views; however, these views are only visible if standing up. When seated, the view is completely blocked by the wooden balcony. The balcony furniture was broken and unusable, and there were cobwebs above the bed that gave the room a neglected feel. The bathroom was extremely small, to the point that toiletries had to be stored in the bedroom, and there were visible holes and marks on the walls. Noise was another issue, with very thin walls and constant traffic noise from the road. The outdoor areas were unusable due to overgrown weeds and stored building materials, and there was no dock as shown in the hotel photos. The outdoor spa was closed due to the building works, and although indoor spa facilities were offered instead, guests had to walk through the hotel in swimwear as the changing rooms were also closed. "We stayed in a courtyard room which was excellent, the bathroom was exceptional. All the staff were very helpful, polite and cheerful. The only disappointment was that for some reason the restaurant was closed so we tried the brasserie and we were not at all impressed, a very burnt burger, so we ventured out each evening and there are some very nice restaurants nearby. The location of the hotel is idyllic on the lakeside and the aquarium, cruise boats and steam train are just across the car park. We would happily stay again"

"Lovely clean kings size room with own patio to sit and enjoy the sun. There’s about 4 different areas to park at . Staff very helpful and with a smile when serving also a bar and lounge to sit, we didn’t use it but it’s there"
