“All the staff where polite and helpful, it just probably my over sights that I didn’t know this is a pub and a busy one, it was 1 in the morning with music playing that I emailed the pub to ask when things would quiet down and my young child couldn’t sleep. Very basic room, screw on the floor, cracks in the walls, dirty toilet and bath.”

“Enjoyed a 4 night stay, great location, very friendly and welcoming staff. Rooms are spacious and clean. Food and service from the onsite Samphire restaurant was great. Would return again.”

“Do not book here. I booked 10 months in advance and when we arrived they couldn’t find my booking. Given a room on 2nd floor, in direct sunlight so it was like a sauna, but they did give us a fan. Arrived back at midnight to find gates closed and locked. Had to call someone to unlock the gate and let us in. “Lovely, interesting old building in a very good location. Given the age of the hotel there are the inevitable uneven floors and slightly steep stairs. The free parking at the rear of the hotel is a real bonus. Our room was comfortable, well equipped and pleasantly decorated. The breakfasts were consistently good but sadly the hotel does not provide evening meals. All the staff were cheerful and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again.”

However, what has caused me to give it a poor score is, I’d been to a funeral the day before and was looking forward to a lie in before my long drive home. Imagine my annoyance, then, when the cleaner tried to get into my room at 7am and of course woke me up. The only thing I wanted was a good night’s sleep and The Ship failed me. I reckon Greene King should refund me.”
