Very cozy room in a historic house, best bed and shower from our trip. Breakfast was delicious. No TV, but instead , a lot of great books. I love the details of the decorations specially the ones in the living room. Close to restaurant .
They went out of their ways to help me when I had an issue with my car (flat tyre) and offered the drinks and the meal while we tried to sort out the issue!!! I can’t thank them enough to get myself organised and got back home safely!!!
Great place and great host! We had a room at the top of the place and it was a bit noisy outside at around 10pm but after that we slept great.
Our toilet wasn't flushed from the previous guests when we arrived but besides that the house was spotless. Charles was a very welcoming host and made us an incredible breakfast.
Would definitely stay again whenever in the area.
I embrace historic charm and quirkiness; what I don’t like are doors to bathrooms and bedrooms that don’t shut properly and lack of cleaning.
The bedroom was described as deluxe double but there is nothing deluxe about it. The carpet was stained and had not been vacuumed recently as evidenced by dead flies and numerous bits. The door to the bedroom could not be properly closed and there was no lock. I’m not sure why this couldn’t be rectified as the door frames seemed relatively new and appeared ‘true’. Perhaps this is a “feature”. There is absolutely no sound insulation in the room.
The bathroom was across the landing and we were provided with robes. However the bathroom could have done with a good clean too. The shower was hot and had good pressure.
The bed was so soft that we found it uncomfortable, this is personal taste but beware if you prefer firmer beds.
Breakfast was ok, but the breakfast table was covered in crumbs and bits from previous diners. Again lack of cleanliness and attention to detail.
The hotel may be dog friendly, but certainly one of the resident dogs wasn’t friendly and nipped me as we were leaving; not a big deal for me but if you don’t like dogs…
This review echoes that of one from 2021 and shows a lack of acceptance of customer feedback by the hosts.
Finally, not that the hosts can do anything about this, but be warned that there are single track roads on all approaches and potholes aplenty- avoid the Ivy Cottsges turning!
What an absolutely beautifully quintessential English cottage.
Could not have chosen a better place to stay. If I am ever near Bath again, this will be my accommodation of choice!
Spectacular!
I booked this accommodation over a month before as part of a business trip - working all day in Dursley the day of arrival and all day the following day - and rang the previous day to confirm my expected time of arrival. When I arrived no one was at home. I rang the number provided, but that was a landline and I could hear it ringing out unanswered. I waited - in the cold and the dark - for 30 minutes and rang again, again to the landline, the only number I had and, again, could hear it ringing out unanswered. Fortunately I did not wait as I was not contacted by the owners until almost 2 hours later by which time I had found, with some difficulty, alternate overnight accommodation 16 miles away. Very frightening. Apparently, this is entirely Hotels.com's fault as they were told on the day the boiler had broken at the accommodation and that no guests could be accepted that day and then Hotels.com failed to let me know.
Excellent! Debs and Charles are absolutely great hosts, the room was superb and we loved the snug, Breakfast was great and the homemade granola wonderful!
On arrival there was nowhere to park within property boundary so we had to put the car on a grass verge on a junction on a very narrow lane. We were shown up to our room which had a remote bathroom for our sole use.
Neither room nor bathroom could be locked. The bedroom carpet was covered in stains and had not been vacuumed. There were 2 mugs with facility to make tea/coffee. One of the mugs had debris in the base. The bathroom was clean but the toilet did not flush, we reported this before leaving for supper, it was not fixed before we left the following morning. Our hosts were apologetic regarding toilet facilities, but they should avail themselves of tradesmen who can supply an emergency service. To have no toilet facility for the duration of the stay was totally unacceptable. The bed itself was clean and comfortable, but the room was nothing short of grubby. I would not have walked barefoot on the carpet. We were told they would refund us £30 on our £125 advance payment. We have yet to receive. Breakfast was adequate, and the owners son who served us was delightful.
What a find! Beautiful house and surroundings, lovely meal and breakfast- with homemade granola- and the hosts could not have been more friendly and welcoming. Only downside- we only booked one night!
What a treat to stay at the Forthay! The innkeepers offer attentive customer service and excellent attention to detail. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have experienced and the breakfast was brilliant!!!
Terrific experience in every front!
Walking the Cotswolds Way and chose this property as it’s location was perfect for our distance and it looked really nice in the photos. We were not disappointed, beautiful house, very tastefully decorated, great character and top quality fittings. Lovely welcoming hosts. Would highly recommend.
