My second time staying here (first time was 11 years ago), and this was my honeymoon! Loved the onsite onsen facilities. The catered Japanese breakfasts and dinners were both excellent. Our attendant Akiko was very sweet and helpful. Definitely recommend Fukuzumiro if you want the proper Hakone experience of a traditional Japanese ryokan and onsen.
A wonderful, once in a lifetime experience.
I speak only a few phrases of Japanese, but the staff and I were still able to communicate perfectly well.
Highly recommended- if I ever visit Japan again, I will be back.
Great ryokan in Hakone housed in a historic building. Very serene, elegant and beautiful. The dinner and breakfast were provided in the room and were both outstanding with locally sourced food and aesthetic arrangements. Onsen hot bath has multiple options, both private and public. Location is close to the station area, within walking distance along the river. Highly recommended!
Traditional style Natural hot springs with private and public baths. Extra friendly staff. Breakfast and dinner was the highlight. Slept with the sound of the river flow.

An Unforgettable Ryokan Experience in Hakone
Our stay at Fukuzumiro Ryokan was truly exceptional and one of the highlights of our visit to Japan. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with extraordinary warmth, kindness, and courtesy. Every member of staff was incredibly helpful, attentive, and genuinely committed to making our stay memorable. Their hospitality was simply outstanding.
Our traditional Japanese room was absolutely beautiful, full of character, elegance, and timeless charm. Overlooking the river, it offered spectacular views and an atmosphere of complete tranquility. The soothing sound of the fast-flowing river was a constant companion throughout the day and night, creating an incredibly peaceful and restorative experience. Falling asleep and waking up to that beautiful natural soundtrack was unforgettable.
The dining experience was equally remarkable. Both dinner and breakfast were exquisite, beautifully presented, and thoughtfully prepared. Every course reflected the care, artistry, and traditions of Japanese cuisine. The attentive, gracious service accompanying each meal was beyond words.
Fukuzumiro offers something increasingly rare: authentic Japanese hospitality delivered with genuine warmth and attention to every detail. We left feeling deeply relaxed, grateful, and privileged to have experienced such a special place.
I cannot recommend this remarkable ryokan highly enough. An unforgettable experience that we will treasure for years to come.
We chose Fukuzumiro for one night during our honeymoon. We wanted a traditional experience, and we got it. Although very traditional, the building is clearly maintained very carefully. The staff is excellent and very very respectful. Koji-san served us really well. It made a huge difference in our experience. The dinner and breakfast are also awesome.
This was the exact authentic Japanese style experience I wanted. Everything from the decor to the clothes. Our room overlooked the river and was incredible to sit and watch while sipping tea.
Everyone at the ryokan was very attentive to our needs. The dinner and breakfast in our room were outstanding. The private onsets were very clean but a little hot. After adding cold water, the onsens were very relaxing. Overall, we had a memorable experience!
Very old traditional Ryokan. Beautiful garden/riverside views. We did not realize that there are no private baths - that was a big surprise but we were only there one night so it wasn't that problematic. Staff were very accommodating and Google Translate made communication very easy.
Feels like you are transported in time! Excellent service...and it wasnt too busy when I stayed. There are only a few rooms and it felt very quiet. Booking the private onsens was easy and the staff were super attentive! Food was AMAZING.
We didn't want a big modern resort but a traditional Japanese ryokan and we loved the stay here. The kaiseki meals and services were amazing! We stayed at Sakura 5 and it was very spacious for a family of 4. The building is showing its age but that's part of the historic charm. Highly recommended for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience.
Beautiful, historic ryokan. Fascinating architecture. Some parts are quite old and need some upgrade, as you might expect for a historic building. But facilities are clean and immaculate. Onsen experience was memorable.
Amazing! Very good customer service, big rooms and amazing scenery. Includes onsen baths which you can reserve for private baths, and public ones as well. Brings your food up to your room.
