A very good hotel in the center of the town

Only 15 minutes by walk from Durban Square. Staff young and very kindly. Breakfast with good quality of foods. Cleaning ok. In general all excellent at an honest price.

Not very nice hotel to stay :(

The room given was very small and congested inside. Bathroom was not clean. Stayed there for two nights but no cleaning of room was done on both days. Even most of the lights and tv was not working. Overall experience was very bad.

Best place to stay

Best place to stay. Nobody is gonna find any better place than this. The price is so reasonable and better than any closeby hotels. The staff and the receptionist are so welcoming and helpful.

a nice stay again! 3rd time

This hotel is really my favourite in Kathmandu, and I'm an "expert" on this city, I've been there more than 40 times in the last 5 years. "Backyard" hotel has a not-so-promising appearance at first, but from the moment you check in, situation changes. Rooms are really clean and comfy. Hot water comes fast (sometimes an issue in KTM) and power outlets work too (also a big plus here). Breakfast is good!! What else? There is a cooler downstair with hot and cold water,its free. Receptionist is always efficient and polite, Checkin \ checkout process takes no more than a minute - with online booking. And the location of the hotel is JUST perfect - 3min walk to the taxi stand, 5 min walk to the supermarket.. 7 min to Garden of dreams and North face \ Himalayan Java cafe.. Night and day, hotel is quiet, noisy techno-style Kathmandu nightlife that is nearby and a big issue with some even pricier hotels doesnt bother you at all. All in all, I cant' recommend this place more. Will stay again for sure.

Nice hotel just off Thamel's busy streets

Backyard hotel was a good time! As I arrived I was greeted by the manager and he offered me a tea which I accepted willingly. This was a warm welcome. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was decent. It had a kettle with some tea bags. I also had a little balcony which was good for some people watching before popping out.

Very disappointed service not like our last visit

Very disappointed ! we came back to stay here because we were happy with the hotel last time . But this time our plane was over 1 hr late (not their fault) and then by the time we got through customs our pickup had left so had to get local taxi to hotel now 1 am. Got up at 5am to get bus to next destination for them to tell us we couldn't get the bus ever though I asked them 1 week ago to book it for us so we had to arrange to get a local bus. Sorry to say but the service was not like last time.

Surely will come back

low cost, no elevator, but room condition very good, roomy, clean, and 24 hours strong & hot water. staff very friendly, and restaurant at roof offers you a good view on surroundings and fresh air. The hotel is not easy to find, please follow the narrow street and make 2 turns.

Room was clean. Wifi was bad and not definitely good enough to play videos or even browse email except at the night time. Restaurant had good food and good breakfast. Be aware that the beer is priced 320 in the menu but they say it's old prices in menu and new price is 380. Location is great. Near bus stops and heart of Thamel.

Great local, run down hotel

Location Is perfect for a tourist. Middle of Thamel and close to major sights. Helpful staff. Wifi was horrible. But it was there every now and then. No room cleaning. Toilet couldn't flush properly the first two days. No toiletries, only a bar of soap. Bathroom was missing half of the window, so it got cold at night. Heating hardly did anything. Area is loud and lots of pigeons and chickens that might wake you up in the morning. Door handle on front door was hardly stuck, and it felt very insecure. The breakfast was very nice and the staff helpful and friendly. All in all it was kinda okay, but very run down.

Best affordable hotel in Thamel!

I love the location of the hotel! As the name suggests, it's located at the backyard. At first, I was worried that it would be inaccessible, but when I arrived at the hotel, my fears proved to be unfounded as it was tuck conveniently into an alley beside the main road! It provides easy access to the busy main road for all your shopping and restaurants yet at the same time, because it's located at the backyard, it gives you the quiet and peacefull sleep you won't have enjoyed if you had picked another hotel near the ultra busy main road! Plus, I love the service of the staff. Everyone was very helpful and attentive to our needs from the moment we arrive to the day we left. It was so good, we booked the same hotel again when we were back in Kathmandu after we finished our trek!

Excellent location. Good breakfast.

An elevator would be nice. Staying on the 6th floor with 2 big climbing bags was 'interesting'. However the staff are mostly always on hand to help out. Great location with very helpful and friendly staff.
