Northwest Wyoming, Wyoming hotel rooms at the Independent

"Our first stay at the Rockwell in 2025 was excellent, so imagine my disappointment when our accommodations were not acceptable last week. First we had trouble with the TV remote and after a couple hours we realized it was the batteries. Meanwhile, we noticed the toilet seat was cracked clear through! The person at the front desk was no help even after explaining that it was no only pinching us, but also unsanitary. How this was not already reported and fixed, I cannot grasp. Then the thermostat started manfunctioning around bedtime, and the room got hotter and hotter, even after making sure the settings were correct. By morning time it was 80 degrees! And we had a very restless night due to the heat. We had to leave the bathroom exhaust fan on all night, or it would have even been 80+! So disappointed!!"

"This is a fun place for kids. The only downside was it felt a bit crowded with the cabins so close to eachother. It didnt feel very private, which I value. Others may not mind. The cabin was nice, clean, comfy. Bed was just ok, but the sofa bed was better than most for the kids 👍 The small indoor pool/hottub was still totally fun for us and the kids. The area around the resort is very busy, and we went during off season! We did not find an affordable dinner for our large family. All restaurants around there are just too overpriced ($15 chicken tenders is too much for one kiddo) So we opted for going to the grocery store in town for roasted chicken and deli sushi. (That is nothing to do with the resort, but maybe a tip for another family while in the area) "

"The building structure (largest log cabin the America) is so unique that it, by itself, warrants a stay. The amenities are a little limited, given the age of the building and the location. In the East wing, your room can feature your own personal view of the geyser. The staff was outstanding....very personable and helpful. The dinners were forgettable- short menu and not particularly well prepared (look for other options in the park). Conversely, the breakfasts were outstanding! Expansive buffet featuring fresh fruit and yogurt, pastries, eggs, wide selection of breakfast meats.......and the best biscuits and gravy I have had in years! All Americans should stay at Old Faithful at least once in their lives......quite an experience!"

"Parking was easy even though it was pretty full. The hot tub was very warm. The pool could've been a touch warmer but the kids still loved it and swam for over an hour. They had fun playing air hockey in the game room but their favorite was cooking the provided smores around the fire. Staff was very friendly. The hotel is a little older but well taken care of and clean for its age. "
