Short week day stay
We have stayed at the Hotel before and this time we were lucky enough to have one of the end units which looks directly out to the harbour. There was a continental breakfast which was okay there could have been a bit more food left out. It's always nice to stay here the area is amazing.

The Opononi Hotel is situated in a most beautiful position on the harbour.Our one night stay was lovely . The check in staff were very accommodating and handled the situation great as our booking had not been sent to them . Lucky for us they had vacancies. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.

There is a feeling that you are stepping back in time, which matches the environment. It’s a very nice place to stay. But our bedroom was a little too small. However, the shower was roomy modern and very pleasant to use.

The staff were what made our stay special. Friendly, welcoming & nothing was too much trouble. Appreciated their willingness to go the extra mile during an exceptionally busy period. Also like the old school vibe in the hotel although that comes at the expense of more modern conveniences. But I’m old enough not to let that bother me 😅

The room was perfectly clean and very comfortable linen and bed. Large shower and the balcony was very pleasant to watch the fishermen and the harbour. Staff could not have been more pleasant and helpful

Staff friendly, and accommodating. Nice remodeled bathroom. Excellent choice of TV channels. Outstanding views across Hokianga Harbour and to sand dunes. WiFi in lounge and restaurant good but, did not work in room.

Cute room - quite small.
Room was clean, and chattels in good condition - cute balcony I worked on in the evening, looking out at the sea. It was pretty small - which is fine for just one, but if you had big luggage or if you were a big person, you might find it a bit poky. Pub would probably be a little noisy if there on a busy night.... had to wait for a wee while before someone was available to check me in (coming across from the bar), but when she arrived, check in was easy and very friendly.

nice room but poor service & meal was disappointing. the noise from the hotel was terrible past midnight had to ask staff to turn down the music. Nice people but not thinking about their guests at all really.

Nice room but vanity basin cracked and black mould stains around tap base. Fresh fruit salad would be better than tinned fruit for breskfast

We took friends on a far north holiday and stayed one night at the Opononi Resort. Check in was very friendly, room was in excellent condition,very very tidy. The bonus was the food next door and that does not mention the views which were superb...our friends looked directly onto beautiful sand dunes across the water...really nice.

Convenience Views Very Friendly staff Lovely showe
A negative is leaving small vases (like miniature milk bottles) on tables with water in where small children could mistakenly drink the water. These vases were seen on all the breakfast tables. Fruit salad could have been presented better e.g. it looked like the same bowl put in the fridge after each breakfast and pulled out for the next day-presentation makes a huge difference.

Had a one night stopover on way back to AKL. Hotel has been quite nicely renovated. Prezents well and is clean and tidy. Attached to pub so was handy for dinner which was superb. No spare blankets or pillows on the room but ptherwose all was good.

Delight "Must" stay on the Hokianga
Fantastic property with dazzling views out over the Hokianga Harbor and the sand dunes. We took the "ferry" over to the sand dunes and slid down using boogie boards, supplied by the ferry boat(really just a large fishing boat). The attached bar and restaurant were great for hospitality and reasonably priced drinks and meals with outside tables , all with views over the harbor and surrounding hills and sand dunes. Rooms a bit small but remodeled bathrooms offered superb showers basins and toilets. Wifi was good in lobby and some rooms, missing in ours as some "creep" had stolen the wifi booster from the hallway :(

This hotel is in need of a good top to bottom cleaning, fresh paint, new carpets and linen replacement. I would not recommend a stay here.

Good things com in small packages
We stayed 1 night midweek. For a room so close to the main road it was quiet that night. Room is extremely small but we were able to squeeze in the 2 patio chairs to watch TV but then had to remove them to the outside when we wanted to go to bed. I liked the french Provincial style furnishings and nice ensuite bathroom. Tea and coffee available to make in our room and bar fridge. The restaurant was closed that evening but the attached hotel bar served food. Parking at the rear of the building. Breakfast of cereal and toast and tea/coffee only was included. I had to ask reception to top up jams, refill the kettle and ask what the drinking glasses were for as there was no juice or water on offer on the tables. She promptly fixed that situation as there were no waiting staff. We did appreciate the breakfast as there was no room to make our own in the room.

Great Service and Location in Beautiful Opononi
A very pleasant stay in a great location. Check in and out was quick and friendly. Room was small but had all you needed for a stay for a day or two, and our room was closer to the road and looked out over the water and had a small balcony, which we didn't get to utilise, as we arrived quite late.

A Pleasant Surprise!
The hotel is in a beautiful location right across from the water. The room was small but was well equipped for a short stay. I really loved the French doors opening onto the verandah.

Cricket farm motel
We shared our room with so many crickets and other insects, we hardly slept We had all windows closed but these insects were already in the room! There were dead ones on the floor when we arrived: vacuuming and exterminating would be great as otherwise the place was fine
