What a perfect beachside hotel. Very laid back and simple with a slice of elegance. Exactly what you would expect from the website. Quirky, cute, fun and easy staff and amazing dinners in the restaurant. You are missing a delightful stay if you miss this property.

So this place has a lot going for it as far location and overall cozy coastal feel. Our room, however (#13) was located immediately next to the lobby with an adjoining wall to their restaurant's kitchen. It was not quiet at all. When I mentioned it to the girl at the desk, she was not surprised and and didn't seem to care. We stayed 3 nights and never got more than a few hrs of sleep at a time. I can't say I wouldn't try staying again in a different room. The beach is a block away, Portland is 20ish min away, and the restaurant provides a decent but expensive breakfast buffet. The staff is hit or miss. The girl working the desk most of the time was not attentive and never even asked how our stay was. When we were checking out she fully ignored me when I approached and chose to speak to a colleague, who eventually got her to pay attention so we could leave.

This is an older hotel but well maintained, especially for a building so close to the sea. We stayed there off-season, early June, so the hotel was not crowded. It also was on a Tuesday night and dinner is only served Wednesday through the weekend. That said, the bed was comfortable, the room and bathroom were clean and the staff was nice. Having a water dispenser in the lobby rather than water in the room was a slight annoyance but that was about it. The outdoor furniture on the front porch is comfortable and there are beach towels, umbrellas and chairs to borrow for the five minute walk down to Higgins Beach. There was a kitchen exhaust fan outside the window that was loud in the morning, but it was mentioned on the property's web site, so not a surprise. I'd say there again.

I really liked the old New England charm of this hotel. Dinner at the restaurant was wonderful with unique creations by the chef. If you are looking for a classic, historic feel, this is a wonderful place.

nice location

One block from the beach is a perfect location. All the chairs are wicker and need to be replaced as there really isn't anywhere other than the bed to sit. Staff was very friendly and overall the rooms were very clean.

Good hotel, convenient for the beach, staff very friendly, great service. However, avoid rooms 23 and 25 as very noisy kitchen extractors come on early just outside the window. Otherwise would stay again.

Room and bed are clean and nice. No furnishing except for a bench. Close to beach, beautiful area to walk. Easy access to nice restaurants. However, the inside of the shower curtain is kind of gross (large area of old sud-stains and maybe mold?). I managed to avoid touching it. Perhaps the maid didn’t see the hidden side.

Loved the relaxed atmosphere and close proximity to a pristine, expansive beach. The accommodations were comfortable and attractive. Our breakfast first rate. The neighborhood was quiet, quaint and welcoming. The only issue we had was a loud fan right outside our bedroom window. We would definitely return and simply choose a different room.
