About an hour out of Xela is a wonderful Hike to Laguna Chicabal a sacred Mayan Lake. Plan to leave early and spend the day climbing and in and around the lake. There is often mayan ceremonies going on. 

Best way to get there is by shuttle from Xela. 

Note you cannot swim in the lake, it is prohibited.
