"We used to come here for many years with our kids in the early 2000's. Back then the resort was in great condition. The street pavement was smooth, for kids to ride scooters and skateboards. All the landscape lighting worked. All the paint was good, etc. They also had a guard gate which limited access to guests only so there was very little traffic. Now it is looking much older, the pavement needs a resurfacing, finish carpentry needs to be redone, etc. It was not badly run down, just not up to the price. They charge $45 a night to park by your room now. That used to be free. There is a big public parking lot, but depending on where your room is, it could be 500 yards away. That may not be a problem for some, and it may be a problem for others. The California Coastal commission probably forced them to open the property to the public for beach access, and they put up big ugly signs everywhere...now you get people wandering through the place. It just doesn't feel as safe and secure as it used to. The location is great. It can not be beat. We just went to the Barefoot Grill for lunch and dinner, and the food was excellent. The views are wonderful. But it does feel like time is taking its toll on the place a bit."

"Ocean Beach Hotel was a mixture of experiences. I traveled here with my wife and 15yr old daughter. Upon arrival, we found the hotel and location as the perfect setting for a couple of days of relaxation. The room was clean and beds were comfortable. I had no issues with the hotel itself and would highly recommend, just depending on what sort of experience you're looking for. The area around the hotel was a different story. Ocean Beach is a mix of bars, surfers, and homeless. I didn't feel in danger, but also not the best scene for a family, especially with young children. We arrived on Wednesday night, which is the "farmers market" night. This was cool at first as there was a lot of street vendors with food/goods. But by around 9pm we knew we were in for a long night. There is a drum circle every Wednesday directly across the street, the sound of heavy drums played non-stop until ~12:00pm. This along with the pop-up rave that also played until ~11:30pm, which stopped when the cops arrived to break up a fight. Made for a very loud night, and impossible to get any sleep until they shut down. Thursday night was a completely different story, The streets were quiet, scenery was beautiful. So, if you're coming for a party, then this location is perfect. If you're coming with your family or for relaxation I would avoid Wednesday nights."

"The room was very quiet and comfortable. The staff was excellent and friendly. We didn't use the pool, because it was cold. The breakfasts were very good, although they seemed expensive compared of going off site."

"Pros: The staff was great, rooms were clean, decor was nice, a/c worked. Cons: the elevator and room was super small. Like abnormally small. Made me a little claustrophobic when I was in the elevator. The valet parking was expensive (50 dollars) especially when you are expected to tip- and you should). There was a weird hidden fee of 24 dollars so the 75 dollar deposit went out the door. Started out affordable but got too expensive too quick especially for what it is. "
