The gardens thrive because apparently the microclimate here from the hillside and coastal atmosphere make it the equivalent of being at 11,000ft altitude in the Himalaya.

Eskdale walks from Eskdale campsite. A great place to pitch your tent. We took a 3km walk from the campsite, 1 1/2 hr moderate difficulty with a 20 Minute uphill ascent, through mine ruins and taking in a beautiful Tarn at the top.
