Overall it was fine, especially considering it's one of the cheapest places to stay in StJohns. My room had a mini fridge, but no wardrobe as was advertised. Since I stayed 9 days, this was disappointing. There was a shelving unit, but it was not a wardrobe. You can control the thermostat in your room. I did have a problem with getting hot water in the mornings due to other guests also using it. On the last night of my stay, some one entered the house and tried to get in my room, which shook me up. I messaged the owner, who investigated and turns out it was just someone unsure of what room they were checking into (this seemed to be a common issue for people staying there). After I messaged the owner they did immediately look into it, but they responded with "sorry for the inconvenience" instead of offering a true apology and taking ownership for their bad management. There should be no confusion what room guests are checking into. Other guests I spoke to told me they did not receive their information, though I booked through expedia and I was fine, some of them had used a travel agent, so beware if that's your route. Overall my stay was fine but it could be cleaner. In the kitchen guests have to wash their dishes, which is fine, but I don't trust strangers to properly wash their dishes or have clean hands. Kitchen has tea, coffee. It is located in a great spot, close to downtown but also quiet and easy to get to places outside the city.
