Lovely place to stop in a small village. Staff very friendly and helpful. Mostly locals patronise the hotel and happy to chat with tourists. Food is great
Very quirky hotel, lots of character. I could not fault the friendly staff, food was great,

Very quirky old place. We did have an en suite which not all have. You can expect some oddness when a building is this old.We loved it there. The staff were great as was the food.Very comfortable and clean.Would stay again.
Lovely old country inn, dont expect marriot type modern corporate sterility.
What you do get is an old world building with warts and all, fabulous character brilliant welcome and a refreshing can do attitude from all of the staff. We were attending a wedding innthe village and had
a really great stay here. Highly recommend for comfort, charm, and welcoming staff.
Brilliant.

The food and bed was excellent, the room needed a little TLC updating
Lovely real ale country pub with rooms. Very rustic but with all home comforts and little extras. Great view over countryside with cows grazing nearby. Breakfast freshly cooked and generous portions. Used as overnight stay following wedding at Crowcombe court (5 mins walk) but also great for walkers etc exploring the Exmoor area. Highly recommend

4 of us stayed at the Carew Arms for one night to break our journey. The best description is that there is no attempt to disguise or mask the pub's age or history, which is a definite plus. It has the feel of a pub that has stood at the heart of the village for 5 centuries, and still serves it's local community as it always has.
The food is simple but hearty, and the snug bar is comfortable, with some excellent local ales.
Recommended!
The pub and food down stairs was very good, however the accommodation was awful, no heating in the room, we was supplied a electric oil rad which was totally inadequate, the bedroom was dirty along with the bathroom, there was flies constantly in the room and dead ones on the bed when you woke up in the morning.
The bathroom was all mouldy and there was dark long hair all stuck on the wall in in the shower the light fitting was full of dead flies just a very bad experience in general regarding the overnight accommodation.
I would say that the owners have only recently taken over the business and the pub and food was very good, but the rooms should not be let out until some drastic changes have been made to them.

This is a very old pub in a relatively poor state of repair. While I understand the difficulties associated with any attempt to modernise what is probably a listed building, there can be no excuse for the somewhat dilapidated state of the hotel. My room was clean and quite spacious, but in need of decoration and some design changes e.g. it needed at least one chair and a better place to hang one’s clothes. The bathroom was in an adjacent room and was clean and functional, but several of the fittings were damaged and needed repair or replacement.
The breakfast was excellent and good value for money. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
One guest had used the word “quirky” in the guest comments book. I certainly agree with that. It could be so much more.
Very quirky place....unfortunately the boiler was broken...and we only had a small portable heater to heat the room with

Charming historic pub in a stunning location. Lovely bed, nice food and great beer. The room was a little tatty - peeling wall paper etc - but given the age of the building and the very keen prices it's a compromise that is worth making. Top value.
Location is beautiful at anytime of year. The pub its self has a very old fashioned Game feel to it. Love how it’s kept its history and not moved with the times. Everything an old pub in a location like this should be. B&B was very comfortable and clean.
What a gem, a 15th century grade 2 listed coach house and stables.
Unspoilt with the best staff ever felt like we have known them years, great food 😋 went up for wedding in crowcombe court and stayed here with family, thankyou all great experience see you in the summer.
A historic and picturesque pub and my room no.4 was spacious with an en-suite bathroom featuring a bath and shower. On a quiet street in the village with a large garden. I reported the hit tap in the wash basin was loose and 2 of 3 bulbs in the central light weren't working (I'm sure this will have been rectified quickly).
Gorgeous hotel, ideal location, peaceful, tranquil and set within beautiful countryside... the beer garden is spacious, green, has ample benches and boasts wonderful views.
The food is fantastic, breakfast and dinner and prices are very reasonable for food and drinks alike.
The owners are friendly and helpful as are al the staff - very accommodating and nothing is too much trouble. There's even dog bisuits in plentiful supply - something very much appreciated by my collie.
I love the character of the place, its extremeley good value and will certainly be returning.

Best term is "rustic". Comfy bed, but very low ceilings, not good accessibility and loud plumbing.
Breakfast was great, but the fact the didn't serve food Monday nights would have been good to know in advance.

Very basic property in need of refurbishment not worth £90 per night, very small cramped rooms. Limited food choices
Room reminded me of the 80s. Bathroom was awful. Shower was linked to bath taps and was scolding hot or cold. Thick old silicone around the top of the bath, old piece of vinyl that must have been laid 20 years ago. Room used a macerator which was noisy and both bath and basin were plumbed into. Even the mugs were dirty. Not impressed given the previous reviews.
Lovley old pub full of character, friendly family running it, good local bees and ciders, excellent food reasonably priced, as you would expect from the Routiers badge. A real find so we hope to return often. Yes, because it is old, the decor and things like the windows are far from modern, but who cares? We hate places that are spic and span, "perfect" or "luxury". If that's what you want, with impersonal obsequious service, go somewhere else.
Both rooms we were going to stay in before we decided to leave were in a poor state of repair. Both rooms were damp with black mould.
We understand it’s a very old property, however as I am Asthmatic I felt I couldn’t stay the night.
The rooms just need some upgrade from the owner.
Beautiful hotel and amazing landlords, staff and other guests were great too. Shout out to one of the locals Jerry, had us laughing for hours! Really friendly and helpful landlords, will definitely stay again
