Our family had a trip booked via train from Saskatoon to Toronto that was canceled because of the wildfires. We decided to hop in the car and make it a road trip instead. The stretch from Winnipeg to Thunder Bay was of concern, but we decided to plow through and cover as many miles as possible to get past the red areas before any closures happened. We didn't have accommodations planned so I searched for a room in TB and this was the only room left at such a late time and with all the evacuations. We were in Dryden when I booked and it appeared we wouldn't be checking in until after 12:30am. The front desk has listed limited staffing after midnight and advised to call for arrangements - I spoke to a pleasant gentleman and let him know we wiuld be there "after midnight". It was just after 9pm when I called. What I didn't take into consideration was the extra hour time difference so we rolled in at 1:45am TB time. He waited up for us an extra almost 2 hours! I almost cried. Sure, the motel is run-down. But you know what? There were no bedbugs. There was good wifi and the shower was perfectly fine. The beds were comfortable, the temperature was great, we couldn't smell the smoke from outside in our room. AND HE MADE SURE WE STILL HAD A PLACE TO STAY even though we were well past the limits. I would stay here again. We are ever grateful for his kindness and a safe, soft place to land after a chaotic day. Thank you!

We were led to believe that the rooms had recently been upgraded through online pictures. However, that was not the case. The rooms were dated but clean, spacious, brand new frig. For the price it was ok for a night as we were pasding through.

This hotel is called the Modern Motel, which is completely unrepresentative of the place! It was very poorly presented from the curb-side and far from modern. The room was in a very poor state of repair with numerous scratches gouged into the wall paintwork. The bathroom was far from modern, cracked sink, stained walls and bathtub. The shower whilst warm, was such a fine weak spray it was very ineffective. The Airconditioner was window fitted, very weak and behind the curtains, making it also inefficient and ineffective. On the positive side the beds were comfortable and the sheets appeared clean, however there was that tell tale odour in the room which indicates it needs a good top to toe clean. There were three indiscriminate chairs pushed into an alcove making it inaccessible (I assume this was supposed to be the wardrobe). The fridge worked well and we were able to park right outside the room door. I would not use the place again. It was not at a level expected for the price.

The listed amenities are present and functional although there is usually only 1 outlet section available in the room and the outlets in the washroom. The room and washroom were clean although they did not look well maintained (the walls had scratches on them and the tub was stained). The beds were comfortable enough although I suggest bringing your own blanket with you because the sheets and duvet cover are very thin. The TV has cable and it works and depending on the room you can connect your Google Cast device to it too.

The place was sketchy had to go up metal stairs in the dark to get to our room, when entering can see someone broke in before. Bathroom door has been locked and frame broken. The phone in room had no cord to it. The tub dripped all night and the beds felt so old and worn down. Overall not a good experience
