"This ryokan was the low point of our stay in Japan. I thought we had booked dinner and breakfast and we hadn't so we weren't able to eat at the hotel. They made a reservation for us at a grungy Chinese restaurant where our servers fingernails were so dirty we walked out before ordering. They booked us the worst massage I've ever had - I left after 3 minutes because the woman doing it obviously had no idea what she was doing. In the morning we wanted to get the shuttle to the other side of the Onsen to visit the temples and they said we couldn't get it until 9:30am so we walked there and then called them at 9:30 to come pick us up and they said we couldn't get a shuttle til 4:30. And it was the only place in Japan that had a QR code in the bedroom for you to leave a tip. A very un-Japanese downmarket experience, We left a day early."
