Broomes Island Cheap Vacations

The hotel is fine. It's a nice Westin. The disappointment was that there was apparently a charge for parking in the big open parking lot, which would not have been a big deal if only I had been informed about it at any point. The front desk didn't mention it; the check-in paperwork didn't mention it; there was no gate or sign (that I saw) or other indication that we were parking in a controlled, paid lot. The only indication was a notification I received in the mail from "Towne Park" with a demand for $75. Park" with a picture of my car and license plate along with a demand for $75, which included $18 for the actual parking plus penalties. I don't know if the sign was the size of a postage stamp, but I certainly never saw it and I would have expected the staff to warn me when I checked in if there was such a penalty for not seeing the sign and for parking in what looked like a basic, open lot for customers.

Fraudulent billing was the cherry on top of a troubled stay. It started with the AC not functioning normally, then the electricity went out on our floor (leaving the room pitch black while I was mid-shower). The hotel offered 50% off one night because of the disruption — before the situation worsened further — but that discount was never reflected in the final charges. We ended up having to move rooms late night, scrambling to repack everything by the light of our cell phones in a stifling hot room. It felt like a joke of a 4-star hotel, and that’s not even considering the bugs, street noise, and lamps missing bulbs. The charge to my credit card was more than double what I expected, and it took a week with multiple follow-ups to get an itemized receipt from the hotel. Not only was the discount not applied, but we were charged for seemingly every single minibar item. We spent as little time as possible in our room because of the AC and electricity issues, and I never touch the minibar because I’m not a reckless billionaire. There were also three charges from the onsite restaurant we visited once. The hotel has since ignored all emails once it informed them the charges were unauthorized. All of the staff we dealt with in person were lovely - they were the single bright spot of our stay. I’ll update this review if the hotel resolves the billing issues.

Check in process

We had high expectations for a Four Seasons property and were disappointed several times throughout our stay. When we checked in the front desk couldn’t help us pay for parking. We had to go back down to the garage to figure it out, We had communicated 3 different times that we needed our sofa bed turned down and it was never done. There were no sheets or pillows in the room to do it ourselves, we got back from a concert at 11pm and turn down service had not come in while we were out. We used the app to ask for the bed to be made and got a response saying turndown service had ended. Finally, close to midnight someone came to make the bed. There was a large stain on the mattress. We had communicated that it was my daughter’s birthday twice and it wasn’t acknowledged until we followed up on the app. The service by the pool was very slow and it was hard to get the servers attention. Overall, it felt like I was constantly having to follow up to get what we needed. I expected better service.

The evening I checked in, your front desk man: Eric was friendly and extremely helpful. The room was spotless and the beds were amazingly comfortable. I will recommend this hotel to friends and family. 2 thumbs up, get adventurous fun!
