“The location is wonderful for ferry travelers--right on the harbor, and so near shops, bakeries, and points of interest! The hotel is old but beautifully cared for and quaint in style. Our room was very comfortable, clean, and spacious for three guests. The staff was friendly and helpful. The car park is a little challenging to get to, but happily there is a helpful hand-drawn map on the front desk to assist visitors to find it! I highly recommend this hotel to visitors to Stromness and Orkeny...

“This is a friendly place with clean pleasant rooms and a nice breakfast. However, it isn’t really a hotel, more a pub offering bed and breakfast. When I booked it advertised a restaurant, but this had closed down by the time we arrived, and we had to book dinner in a sister hotel nearby. Not a big issue, but as there are only two restaurants in town you have to book early. We found here that like many places in Orkney there seems to be a serious staff shortage. “This place was clean and comfortable with a nice breakfast. However, we booked it as a hotel with a bar and restaurant, which had ceased to operate by the time we got there. This is an issue in a fairly remote location with no other dining options. We were hiking, and the nearest place was almost 2 miles away. It needs to rebrand as a bed and breakfast. Although the staff were lovely, reception was usually closed with a phone number to call.This was the second time this has happened on our trip...
